Q: Can the D door be zipped shut? I don't trust a few spots of velcro to do the job at night, when we are not at the camp or at windy times.

submitted by Anninanny - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out to Coleman, the Outdoor Company. Yes, we have a tent model that has two doors on the D-door (one hinged and one zipper). We suggest for you to check the tent details first before purchasing it.

Q: Can any owners of this tent tell me how this hinge style door works with dogs? Will it keep them inside? I love the concept, but very concerned it might not stay shut to keep my dogs inside.

submitted by SpookQeen - 3 years ago
  • A: You always have the option to let your dog inside the tent as long as the guy lines are properly attached to ensure that the tent is stable and not flimsy. Also, make sure that your dog is not too knave.

Been on 4 trips with this guy so far. We have not had serious weather on 3 of the 4 excursions. Unfortunately, last weekend we got to put it to the test in a thunderstorm. Doubly unfortunate was the puddle we woke up in and complete lack of sleep anyone got due to rain and condensation pelting us in the face all night long. No rain came in the windows which was great, but I cannot explain why the ceiling leaked so bad. We Scotchguarded properly before use, staked all guy lines, all connections were secure... no dice. Thankfully it was dry and sunny the next day so we could put our gear in the sun and dry the inside of the tent. Had it kept raining, we'd be packing the entire family up and ending the holiday weekend. Aside from the weather, I also find this model to be lacking basic features that I would expect to be no brainer inclusions. No lantern clips, very little storage, square windows do not have tethers at the top to secure flaps in wind, air flow is not always great, no floor in the screen room so it can't really be opened up fully unless you are in a very dry and bug-less environment. We paid full price last season after much research for a new tent. There is nothing masterful about this one in the weather. I have had 15 year old Coleman tents that held up better after a decade. What happened to this model?! Do NOT recommend.

Hello, Brittany. Thank you for contacting Coleman, the Outdoor Company, and for taking the time to provide feedback on our Coleman® WeatherMaster® 6-Person Tent with Screen Room. We're sorry to hear that your tent's ceiling leaked so badly and that it lacked basic features that you'd expect to be standard. There are no lantern clips, very little storage, square windows do not have tethers at the top to secure flaps in wind, air flow is not always great, and the screen room has no floor, so it cannot be fully opened unless you are in a very dry and bug-free environment. We appreciate you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for your negative experience with our product. We work passionately to achieve such satisfaction from our customers by continuously improving our products and services. As we are looking for ways to better our product and service, we always ensure that consumers' feedback and concerns are shared with the concerned department. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you and have day.

i absolutely love this tent. the screened in space and set up of the tent in general is awesome.. worth setting up for 2 people and will be even more worth it when it fits our kids too! unfortunately, the tent blew over on a windy day, bending many of the poles on one side. i’ve been unable to fix the poles but am hoping to find replacements so we can continue using the tent.

I have had my tent for 6 years. Used it seasonally every year. It does take a moment to set up and preferably a 2 person job but once it's up it's amazing! It's like a house. In 5'10 and I don't need to crouch down once inside. The door opening is a game changer. I have 2 boys that are in and out. No zipping and un zipping getting it snagged. It just swings open and shut. There are a good amount of windows in the perfect spots. A divider inside it you want to separate visually. I have dogs so i purchased the one with the tent cover. Perfect! Protects stuff from morning dew, shades, put dirty things you don't want left out like generators, chairs. I fit 4 cots with some extra space for clothing bags. I don't recommend this for weekend trips. This is for longer trips. I suggest a practice assembly at home 1st. Be patient. Label the parts with a labeler. I guarantee you'll come to love this tent.

Love the Magic Door!

Bought this tent last year when our camper went into the shop for the season. Held up great in the pouring rain (after seam-sealing) and wind. We typically camp in wooded areas, so extreme wind not an issue. I had read reviews where Campers had the Door fly open. Not an issue for us. In fact, I LOVE the door! We only zipped at night or when we left camp. In fact. . . .Need a straight-walled Screenhouse WITH this Door! Please make and let me test it!!

Tent is not weather resistant!

I've used this tent multiple times in fine weather. Its a bit cumbersome to set up, but is a roomy and comfortable tent and I love the hinged door. However, the first time it rained the tent immediately began to leak. It was like it was raining inside the tent. Not even that hard of a rain. It was like the fly was porous. So the tent is not much use unless you are 100% certain it will not rain. Not much of a Weather Master.

Great Tent, especially in warmer weather

If you are looking for a tent that is sturdy and holds up to wind and rain, this is a good option. Putting it up takes 2 people and can be done in about 20 minutes. But once it is up it is a solid tent. However, it is VERY drafty. The roof is mesh and there is no way to zip it up; also, the end that exits to the screened portion does not zip across the bottom (the screen does, the privacy door does not). So, the tent doesn't really hold heat. That was a huge issue for us this past weekend when it was raining and unseasonably cold at night. Mild hypothermia, I know thy name. Brr. The screened porch is very nice, it doesn't have a floor which is a good thing because the rain gets in and pools if there is one. In short, great tent in fine weather, handles rain and wind ok, but not cold.

Recant my complaint

I originally rated this tent as a 2 star as I was experiencing water issues. I had set up the tent in the pouring rain and put the review that same nighy. I have since then used the tent on 5 additional camping trips. The most relevant to this review was the one in Craigleith, On. I was at a site right on the shore of Georgian Bay. We has a sever weather warning that lead to multiple campers aborting mission. I was going to as I had issues with rain the first time I used the tent. We stuck it out and withstood the storm experiencing winds at 60 knots/hr. The tent had absolutely zero water inside and heald up beautifully. The only recommendation I have is to purchase steal pegs of you plan to camp on a harder terrain.

The tent is spacious, like the screened area and the swing door. However I hate that it isn’t self supporting. It must be staked into the ground or it will collapse.

We had one for roughly 2.5 years and loved it initially. The layout is nice, the side door was very handy. The tent is very spacious. The porch is not a place to store dry items. The small fiber glass poles started fraying at the ends of the tubes. I guess the bending separated the fiber glass itself. One of the stake loops pulled out on the cover. Without a healthy application of camp dry it will leak. Our tent finally gave up the ghost this year when the stitching around the front porch flap completely separated rendering it useless. We probably got a dozen solid uses from the tent, but may be looking at one a little more durable for the next one. It is a really neat design I will say that.

Very Durable Very Heavy

My wife and I love this tent once it is set up and tarped. The first year we used it in Franconia Notch and it torrential down poured for 3days and nights. Our whole site was tarped off and we stayed dry. The next time we used this tent I did not tarp at well and we did get a little damp. I was always taught to tarp off your tents. That being said the screened in area is nice for things you want close by but not IN your tent. I will say the poles are VERY heavy. This tent takes up ALOT of space in the car or carrier. We’ve had this tent for about 5 years, keep saying we’re going to get something smaller but we keep using it.

I was surprised that I can set this up alone. Downside is that the screen room entrance into the tent does not zip on the bottom only the screen itself. The room divider is not attached. I like them to be attached and zipped along the floor so you do not get cold air coming from underneath. I love the swing door it is very convenient. Buy the heavy duty tent stakes the ones that are included bend to easily. Colman sells the heavy ones. I will seam seal just in case. A good tent, I will use it about 4 times this year. Excellent tent keeping us dry with tons of space

We have the older version of this tent where the screened area comes equipped with zippered walls to keep the rain away and functions as a separate sleeping area for 3 additional people with their own entry door, and yet it can be opened to let air in as a sitting area. After the first couple uses some of the seams on the fly started to stretch and leaked at a certain stressed area and we treated them with camp dry quite successfully. No more leaks even under torrential rain. We have been very careful not to over-tight and stretch the tent walls. The metal poles are height adjustable for a reason. We always use tarp underneath the floor for extra measure. We camp at the beach parks a lot in the summer where the temperature can be scorching hot. The huge screen keeps us cool at night. Excellent spacious tent with flexible use of space!

Have taken this out on 5 weekend trips. Easy to assemble. One night we were hit with a complete downpour for a good 30 minutes, then heavy rain on and off the rest of the night. We put a ground tarp down before pitching the tent and set the rain fly up properly. Tent stayed dry. Would recommend to anyone. The door is also a great feature, especially if you have kids.

We put this tent thru the ringer. It was lived in for two months in the dead of winter in British Columbia. Withstood two feet of snow on the roof and didn't collapse! However if you expect any tent to withstand any type of wet weather without properly using the guy lines and tarping off both under the tent and above you are sadly mistaken! Being from British Columbia and having spent most of my time in and around the Bush I can tell you that this tent is awesome I mean two months of constant use near two months of rain/ snow with not a single issue. But you have to tarp it off!
