Conversations With Buñuel : Interviews With the Filmmaker, Family Members, Friends and
About this item
This book features extended conversations with Luis Buñuel (1900–1983) and interviews with the filmmaker’s family members, friends and colleagues—including Salvador Dalí, Louis Aragon and Fernando Rey—conducted by the author in the late 1960s and early 1970s (an earlier edition was published in Spain in 1984). Buñuel was notorious for inventing fanciful versions of his life and his creative process—most notably in his unreliable memoir, My Last Sigh. Yet he was hard put to deceive Max Aub, an astute interviewer who shared Buñuel’s background in Spain, in Paris during the Spanish Civil War, and in Mexico, where they were friends and collaborators. In this translated and expanded edition, the interviews provide a detailed picture of Buñuel’s life and art. Background notes are included, along with updated information and several significant interviews not published in the original work.
