The glaze of our ceramic pots is a silicate made of quartz, feldspar, and clay. The glaze is covered over the pot, fired at high temperature to melt the glaze, and then cooled down. Q: Can locking the lid during cooking cause the unit to become excessively hot? My counter top and the unit are very hot to the touch. I’m trying to figure out if it was cause by the lid being locked, or if there is an issue with the unit itself.

The heating base is subject to residual heat from cooking cycle. Due to the proximity between the heating element and the exterior of our slow cookers, it is normal for them to get quite hot on the outside. Q: Does the lid need to be locked during cooking?

Locking the lid during cooking, will keep the steam in producing pressure which could affect the slow cooker’s performance.

The outside of this crock gets DANGEROUSLY hot, and the inside is barely warm. It cooks nothing. Might work if you want to keep something warm, but that’s about it. The ceramic bowl does not snugly fit in there, it wobbles around which explains how it is not heating… sad because it’s beautiful, but completely non functioning.

This crock pot was purchased to replace my 20-year old work horse crock pot. The same size, same brand, same crock...slightly different controls. It doesn't work nearly as well. They definitely chose form over function with this model which 100% got me to buy it--and now I regret it. I have receipes I have been making for YEARS in my other one...again, same brand, same size, etc...and when I use this one I have to double the time...leave it on HIGH all the time, etc. I have yet to succesfully execute a single recipe on the expected timeline with it. I have tried gettting it started while I prep, I have tried just leaving it on HIGH (which in and of itself is not possible for more than 6 hours), I have tried everything and this will end up being donated because it just doesn't work. I am disappointed--not only because it was money wasted...but also because I thought I was making an informed decision based on my past experience with the crock-pot brand. Don't count on it with this model.

I like the look of this Crock Pot so was happy when purchased but have been disappointed with the performance. I will have items cooking on high for 4 hrs and come back and have to add more time because it takes forever for them to cook. Even when just warming things up high, it takes a very long time. I was surprised that a product with the Gaines brand would be this poor in quality.
