Description

When most phones are smaller than an envelope, it's nice to remember the days of colorful phone booths and the jingle of dropping coins dropping in. Go back and find the past in this 1950s payphone from Crosley, reproduced down to the rotary-style push buttons. Even better, this vintage-inspired payphone doesn't take money, it saves it in a coin bank!

Q: Is there any chance that this phone can be somehow be converted into a cell phone? I know that's an odd question, but my 32 year son is really intro retro things, but doesn't have a landline in his apartment building. Thanks in advance for your reply!

submitted by - 2 years ago
  • A: Actually yes. Verizon offers a $20 a month home phone that works off the cell towers. It just plugs into a little black box that comes with a battery in case of power outages. You can answer a landline phone that's plugged into it anywhere Verizon works.

Unfortunately the negative reviews I read prior to purchase were correct. The coins didn’t go down and the key to the bank didn’t work- so even if they had gone down I wouldn’t have been able to retrieve. I am returning this purchase.

This phone seemed fine at first, for a few months. After 2 months, it began having problems where it would simply cut out during a call. I contacted the manufacturer, and they had me send the phone for repair. A few weeks later, they sent me a new phone. Now this one is also having issues. When money is put inside, it does not go into the box at the bottom, but rather an inaccessible area inside the phone. If you want a good functional phone, then don’t buy this one.

LOVE this phone! I bought this phone because this reminded me of my youth. Another bonus is now that it's hung up on the wall, it SCARES the BeJesus out of out teen girls when it rings!!! LOL....nope, not as sturdy as the real thing but I didn't expect it to be in all honesty. Thanks for the all of the great memories!!!

LOVE it! We got this because we told our kids they are going to put their phones away when they get home and if someone wants to get a hold of them they can call our new house line. They said "like the old days?!!!" So we set out to find the oldest looking phone. Our teenagers called us "extra" and we couldn't be prouder!! My only concern is the key seems a little flimsy, hoping it doesn't bend or break.

Cute phone, but not as sturdy as one would think -?

I read other reviews before buying, so I knew it would be a plastic phone with a modern ringer, so I didn't expect much. I am writing this review for those who may not have seen any others. For the price, one would expect a substantial phone, but it's just plastic made to look like metal. That is probably a good thing, though, because otherwise it would probably tear the modern plastic jack off the wall. Target had the best price that I found, and if you want a whimsical/cute phone, this is it! I do like the look, and it makes a little bell sound when you add money. Let's hope it holds up, and I would really love it if it cost about $[...] less, of course. :-)

I am very happy with my payphone. I purchased it for our game room that has other nostalgic items. This phone looks just like the original. Opposing the other review, I am very happy with the quality of my phone and think it was well worth the price. I am pleased with my purchase.

This phone fits in perfectly with my retro diner kitchen. It is plastic but feels solid. The "chrome" is also plastic but that is ok. Handset is solid; feels like the old fashioned kind. Sounds great, better than my expensive cordless phones. Went up very easily. Annoying that the ringer controls and volume controls are on the back of the phone so you have to take it off the wall to change them. However, for the most part, once you set them you should not have to do it again. And if you do, it comes off and goes back on the wall easily.
