Q: Is this pie maker good for baking pies because people have been saying it hasn't cooked alll the way through & the crust is burnt. Should I buy this? If I buy this can you tell me how to make good pie

submitted by adela - 1 month ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Dash Mini Pie Maker. If you are having trouble getting the top of the pie crust to bake evenly, we’d first suggest checking that you are adding enough pie filling to make the top pie crust touch the top cooking surface. We’d also recommended preheating the pie maker and using room temperature dough for best results. Lastly, you may also try using puff pastry as your crust, this type of dough rises differently, and we’ve found it can often cook more evenly throughout. If none of these troubleshooting tips help, please reach out at bydash.com/help. Thank you!

Q: I purchased the mini pie maker and it is adorable. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to not have the edges of the crust burn. Ideas?

submitted by DDR809 - 10 months ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for purchasing the Dash Mini Pie Maker. We've found that using crust that is at room temperature tend to cook more evenly and you should make sure you have enough filling in the pie that the top crust will touch the top of the pie maker to avoid burning or under cooking any areas. We also suggest trying puff pastry as a crust option, this type of crust rises more and can help with even cooking. If none of these tips are helping, please reach out to bydash.com/help and our customer service team would love to assist.

Quick, efficient, yet requires some trial-and-error

The negative reviews are valid, if you don't know the tips to make this work properly. Firstly, ensure your filling is warmed (if not making from scratch), secondly--always pre-heat it! Thirdly, the 1/3 C filling isn't accurate. It will not cook all the top crust all the way UNLESS you fill it enough to make contact with the top burner. It's a bit of a trial-and-error, but it definitely cooks all the way through and within about 4 minutes for an apple pie.

And for me it is a miss. I bake a lot so it was a cute idea for the summer when it's just a bad idea to turn the oven on for an hour or so. But this thing must cook way too hot because it burns the outside while barely cooking the filling (even when filling it high enough). I really want to make it work, and while the results are mostly edible, baking in my toaster oven is more reliable and only a bit longer.

Very disappointed. Crust was both burned & raw. I followed the directions & had everything at room temp. Baked the pie in the oven another 15 minutes to have a baked pie. It's cute, but it failed at pie.

I was skeptical after reading all the bad reviews but I actually really like this thing. I made some meat pies for dinner and they came out delicious. I used store bought puff pastry sheets and it cooked really well and was nice and brown. The only downside is if you want a bunch of pies it’s going to take forever. The instructions say to unplug each pie and let them cook five minutes before you take it out. I found that helped them come out perfectly but that means if you want pies for a family of six, like I did, it’s going to take a while. It was worth it though.

Dash needs to rethink this one

I love Dash products. I have many. I especially love my little baby Bundt maker. But this one is a dud. It’s a cool idea, but it just doesn’t work. The edges blacked and the top burns so fast and the bottom doesn’t cook at all. I had burned edges while the bottom crust was pliable and uncooked. Dash needs to rethink this one…

Hello! Thank you for purchasing the Dash Mini Pie Maker. If you are having trouble getting the top of the pie crust to cook through, you can make sure you are adding enough filling to the pie top crust is touching the top of the pie maker. We also recommend pre-heating the Mini Pie Maker so that the cooking surface is evenly heated. For best results, pie crust should be room temperature or you may try puff pastry as it often cooks more evenly based on how it rises. I’m on the fence. I LOVE Dash’s mini products, I have two of the pancake/waffle irons. This pie maker is adorable and usually works great, but sometimes it burns the crust without baking the insides. Also - it’s difficult to get pies out without destroying them. I use tongs and they work maybe half the time. Easy to clean - spray with cooking oil before baking and wipe it with a damp paper towel after it’s cooled down.

This is my least favorite Dash product. I’ve tried to make several pies and finally gave up. Ingredients are too expensive for such waste. The crusts are raw in places and burnt in others. The pie maker doesn’t cook evenly. My mini quiche was raw in the middle with black burnt edges. It’s awful and there’s no way I can recommend it to anyone. It’s a shame because I have really enjoyed the Dash mini appliances but this one doesn’t work.

Hello! We're so sorry to hear you were not totally satisfied with the Dash Mini Pie Maker. If you are having trouble getting the top crust cooked, we suggest adding more filling to the pie so that the crust pushes against the cooking surface. Also, we have found pushing down too hard on the top can cause the edges to burn. And we've found using room temperature pie crust yields the best results. Thank you!
