Description

Differin Gel Acne Face and Body Treatment contains adapalene, an Rx-strength acne-fighting retinoid that helps clear breakouts where they start (works deep into pores in 5 minutes), helps prevents new acne from forming, and as a result, can restore skin's overall tone and texture. Adapalene is the first over-the-counter active ingredient for acne in more than 30 years. It clears acne with the power of an Rx without the prescription, prevents breakouts, blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes and clogged pores, and can be used to effectively treat acne. When used as directed, you could start to see results in as little as 1 week, and when used every single day, Differin Gel can help reduce up to 87% of acne in just 12 weeks (Cunliffe et al 1998, Galderma Laboratories).

This product has improved my skin and I get more compliments on it now. I get some hormonal acne around my period which this makes no promises to prevent or treat. I was expecting a bit of a more radical change, but overall I like the product and it lasts a long time. I will be purchasing it again and view it as a critical part of my skincare routine now. I started using it the day I got it at the end of October 2024 and it is now January 2025, and I still have a good amount left. I have used a pea sized amount everyday and never had issues with dry skin, however, my eye patches that I used to like to use for self care (which contain retinol), I can no longer use because the skin is more sensitive. I would highly recommend if you are new to this type of product to both work your way up in frequency and hydrate your skin properly to avoid over drying and peeling. I have found that my eyes in general are more sensitive and have had to switch my sunscreen because of that even though I avoid the eye area when applying this product. I use a peptide serum with hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, vanicream, differin, then vanicream again (sandwich method) and a light oil on top. It’s not a “holy grail,” but no product is, but it is an effective and affordable synthetic retinol product. Below are pictures with a cc cream and one with no make up after my nightly skincare routine after about 6-7 weeks of use.

I really like Differin! I was using prescription tretinoin for 2 years but I had to stop due to insurance issues. I switched to using Differin and there was a bit of residual purging for a couple weeks during the transition but after that I think the daily use has been working to control my acne.

DO NOT USE with sensitive skin. I don’t even have sensitive skin and this made me purge for months. I used a tiny amount every 3 days mixed with moisturizer and the purge never ended from oct-may. Ruined my skin.

Been using this for about a decade now, and it’s long been a staple in my skincare regimen. Highly effective against wrinkles and most kinds of acne. It’s lightweight, nonocclusive, and scentless, so it’s barely noticeable once rubbed in. It might be a bit pricey but goes a long way, so definitely worth it. The only downside side is that it is well known to cause skin dryness and sun sensitivity, so it’s best for nighttime use.

My dermatologist recommended Differing to help clear up acne & prevent breakouts, and I’d say this product has worked better than all others! It’s a lightweight gel that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, and within a day of applying it to a breakout area, my acne is dried up. It CAN make my skin a little dry, but I’ll take that if it means clear skin!

Not for sensitive skin. It dosnt burn but it does make my skin very dry and has caused me to get quite a few pimples. I used this to help with my white heads and texture. Just made me break out like a teenager.

I have cystic acne and this helped me a lot! A little goes a long way. The product isn’t thick at all. Moisturize after using to avoid purging. Now my acne only lasts for 3 days. I’m so happy! It’s worth every penny.

My skin is sensitive and I get acne from everything including monthly hormonal changes, food allergies and my work environment, etc. Lonnng sigh lol. I have used Kojie Acid Soap off & on for years and it worked but lately it seems to not be as effective especially on the allergies acne. I saw this and took a chance because of the price and I can find it anywhere in the country. I started using the adapelene gel at night. It was great but, it doesn’t work well on spot treatments so I added this one (benzoyl peroxide) in the daytime and that’s when I saw the biggest improvements in my acne and dark spots. I do still wash day and night with Kojie Acid. I only use my face cream in the daytime. I also started back dermaplaning once a month.

This product was a Godsend for me. I am in my mid 20s and have not struggled with acne since I was in my early teens, but all of a sudden my skin started breaking out horribly with no apparent cause. I religiously used products containing salicylic acid & benzyl peroxide for months with no improvement whatsoever. My skin just got extremely dry and more red and irritated. I decided to switch things up and stumbled upon this product online. My skin started significantly clearing up after only about a week of use. Yes, I did go through retinization, and my face got very dry/red/flaky at first, but I quickly adjusted and have been using it every night since. I have been clear of breakouts for around 6 months aside from the very occasional 1 or 2 blemishes that still pop up here or there. My only complaint is that my skin is now extremely sensitive to the sun, and often feels like it's sunburnt when outside, even if the sun is not shining directly on it - and yes I am an avid sunscreen user. This sensation has lessened a bit over time, and isn't severe enough to make me stop using the product. I will always swear by it.

So far I’ve been on it for exactly a month, my skin is dry. Very dry and new acne keeps showing up. My skin is really red now and pretty sensitive. I think I might take a break for a week and see how it goes. So far it’s not helping and it’s been making my acne worse than it was.

I have sensitive skin and this was recommended to me for my acne. I used it as directed for three weeks and it ruined my skin. At first it was fine but by week two my entire skin burned severely. Just splashing room temperature water on my face stings extremely bad now. Even my eye lids somehow became inflamed and the skin began to flake though I wasn’t applying the gel anywhere near them. I discontinued using the product and now I’m having to undergo a painful recovery process.

I can’t thank this product enough. When covid started and had to wear mask 12 hours a day on summer, my face suffered terrible breakouts and nothing solved but this. I rebought it again this summer because of some hormonal issues and my face is way better. I am sure I will buy it again next year

Wonderful product. Has helped clear up acne after using it for a few months. I like the pump bottle. It is easy to apply and you don’t need much! My skin was a little dry and sensitive at first, but now it’s working great for me! I use it after washing my face, underneath a good moisturizer.

It's okay, it definitely helps me with blackheads but it barely helps with everything else. With combination skin, it dried me out a lot. I wouldn't recommend applying it everywhere, mostly for spot treatments, but it didn't work well with hormonal acne.

Differin eye reaction - 4 months ago

I accidentally rubbed the smallest amount on my eye lid, and now the skin around my eyes is so sensitive. It’s been WEEKS and I can’t wear eyeshadow or eyeliner without it burning. I stopped the treatment over a month ago when I woke up with severely puffy, red eyes. I thought it was pink eye, it was so bad. I stopped use of the gel, applied hydrocortisone, and it got a little better. I finally started wearing a little bit of makeup, and my eyes are so swollen all over again. I hope this goes away, I had zero issues before I used this God forsaken gel.
