This is our second Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner. The first one I had repaired once by an authorized dealer, and then a few years later, I repaired it by replacing the brush motor and a few other "hard to reach" thingies. lol Finally, the main motor just stopped working. I believe overall it lasted 10 years and was used to clean our home with 4 furry pets during that time period. Lots of long dog and fine cat hair did it pick up! So, I wasn't going to bother repairing it. It was time to retire it.
The new Animal 2 is clearly more powerful and my wife loves it. I ordered the reach under tool to use with it, but the USPS decided they would lose it once it got to the hub that is responsible to truck it to the local post office. Been missing now for nearly a week, and I doubt I will ever see it or get my money back. Will purchase another one that doesn't rely on the USPS to deliver it.
It's a great vacuum, and having worked on it to do repairs, I don't know what people think is cheap about the materials used or the design of this vacuum cleaner. It doesn't feel cheap, uses good quality plastics snaps and screws are used for assembly, albeit some are hard to reach. The only downfall of the Dyson is it is sometimes very hard to empty the canister, especially if it gets too full. But, given the alternatives out there, I highly recommend this model!
This vacuum is the worst. The suction is so strong that you can not move the vacuum. We moved to a new home and the carpet was a slightly higher pile, but still a very normal height. This vacuum is basically useless and I tried calling Dyson customer service for help. They said, "this vacuum is not compatible with all carpets" and there was nothing they could do since we were out of the 30 day window. So disappointed and I will not be buying another Dyson.

Hello caitswan44, Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We're so sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Ball Animal 2 machine. While Dyson machines can work on most flooring types, we are unfortunately unable to test our machines on every permutation out there. Therefore, we always recommend contacting the carpet manufacturer/retailer before using your Dyson machine, or any vacuum. Some have recommendations and restrictions on suction power, brushbar and even brand. We'd value the opportunity to learn more about your experience with your Dyson as we'd like to help ensure you are having a 5-star experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at askdysonUS@dyson.com, and we will be in touch. Best Wishes, Miella Dyson Customer Support
Absolutely love this vacuum. I have tried the bissell and shark and they were okay vacuum cleaners but the dyson has the best suction and better overall vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. It is pretty loud though!
Have had my Dyson Ball Animal 2 for 6 months and very disappointed. Works great on wood floors but very difficult to push on low pile carpet. Annoying suction at top of cleaner and hard to snap into upright position. Not easy to use attachments. Most expensive vacuum I've ever purchased & the least user friendly. It does excel at maneuverability but that feature is now available on other less expensive models. Would not recommend it to a friend.

Hello JLF, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to learn of your disappointing experience with the Dyson Ball Animal 2. Dyson machines have higher levels of suction power - while this works for a majority of carpets, there are select fibers that may not be compatible. The air seal would be limited due to the suction power of the machine, from the result of the high suction and the self-adjusting feature. While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
I am so disappointed with this vacuum. Despite the negative reviews, I purchased it because I love my old Dyson and had zero complaints with it. I really wanted to like this, but it just won't work for our house. We have thicker pile area rugs and it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to use this on them. In addition to being incredibly hard to push, it had a horrible squeaking noise every time I pushed it forward on rugs. On the thinner rugs in our house, it actually pulled rug fibers out because the suction was so strong. The pros are that it really does deep clean your rugs and the attachments are amazing. I was really hopeful this would work for us and am so disappointed it doesn't. On the plus side, Target's return policy is excellent and I am able to bring this back, opened, for return. If you are going to order this, keep the box until you know you're going to keep it.

Hello Kez, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to read your review, and to learn how disappointed you've been thus far with your Ball Animal 2. Dyson ball upright vacuums - including Dyson Ball Animal 2, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal. While I understand you've since returned your purchase, we'd value the opportunity to learn more regarding your experience, as we're dedicated to customer satisfaction. Please consider emailing us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
Too difficult to push on our carpets. Bulky/heavy and feels cheap when you switch from upright to pushing it. For the price it should work flawlessly on any standard carpet. Looks like most other models have a way to adjust the suction at the head. Returned it and bought a shark for half the price and it works just fine.

Hello Kim, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to read your review, and to hear that you've found your Dyson Ball Animal 2 difficult to push. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.
