Earth Balance Organic Buttery Spread - 13oz

We thought this was a defect with how the store was packaging. After seeing the other reviews it’s clear that the recipe was changed. To have been a fly on the wall for the meeting where they decided to torpedo the recipe.

We’ve been buying this non-dairy spread for years and used to love it. After buying the second one that’s as hard as a rock, I thought I’d check the website. I see we’re not alone in our disappointment. It would be great to hear whether this is permanent or the company might return to the previous version. The standard response to this many disappointed customers is frustrating.

Horrible crap that never melts and can't be dished out except in hard clumos

Our family has been using this product for 15 years. At first when I opened the container I thought it was a bad batch and something went wrong in production. Hard, unspreadable and waxy. It is sad when formulas are changed to cut costs not taking customers into consideration.

Like lots of other folks have asked, WHAT HAPPENED? Whatever changes you have made were not for the better. I must now find another product. Sad.

I’ve been using this for a few years and all of a sudden it’s hard as a rock and impossible to spread. Was hoping it was a one off but after reading other people’s same issue I won’t even be attempting to buy it again. I’m not even going to use the current brand new one which is a shame.

Same complaint as so many others...new consistency is hard and crumbly and messy to use. It used to be so good! How long until you go back to the old formula, or at least improve the spreadability? Very disappointed that you've ruined a fine product!

The consistency is nasty and I've been using this since 2015 It's hard and crumbly now.Im done with it ,but I'm disappointed that corporate can only respond w canned. responses.

Look what they've done to my spread Ma! Use to love this spread. Now it's like grating cheese. Somethings obviously changed. New recipe? Seeing a whole lot of negative reviews. Can't be good for business.

The organic vegan butter is very tasty. I am very glad that you have one that does not have pea protein! Pea protein upsets my stomach.

Hi! So disappointed. As so many others noted, my latest purchase of this spread was hard and crumbly. I can’t figure out how this consistency passed quality control! I’m not going to buy it for a while to give the company time to figure this out!. Bring back the original buttery spreadable consistency!!!

I bought this product a few times within the last month. This is not the product I remember using. I thought it had better ingredients, tasted better, and it was whipped consistency. 😳 What happened??? This is terrible; now it hard, crumbly, and taste off. I was trying to go dairy free but I will have to choose another option. Also didn't the whipped spread use to be soy free??? (And yes I know there is a soy free version but I thought this spread also use to be soy free).

We’ve been using Earth Balance for many years. We’ve now seen the taste isn’t quite the same and the texture is that of a wax candle. We ended up returning the spread back to the grocery store. Seeing all the other reviews, confirms that we aren’t alone in our thoughts. We’ve found another brand to replace Earth Balance unless EB goes back to its original formula.

Earth Balance organic buttery spread. I am very disappointed in the recent changes this product. I used this product for health reasons and appreciated it as an alternative to higher saturated fat products and , since the product was whipped, it was easier to spread on toast and baked goods thus making it easier to control how much was used for health conscious users. The current formula is no better than the competition in spread ability, you have lost your edge. I saw no notice of the ingredient or process change and bought several containers thinking this was a “one of” occurrence. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, thinking that somehow, in transit or in the store, something had happened with temperature to change the product consistency. This “whipped” product is hard as a rock. In my former line of work I had access to a major Midwest corporations testing facilities and was impressed with the effort to subject their products to testing that replicated use by customers. I cannot imagine how this product got through your testing if it mirrored actual use by consumers, like my morning coffee with toast, with my dog. He gets tired of waiting for me as I struggle with this difficult product. I suspect that this change was made for financial reasons and since this product is a small part of your business, its failure will not impact your stockholders and employees significantly. I am glad for that, but this change has impacted your customers. Feel free to contact me if you go back to the old formula and I’ll give it a try again. Otherwise, I am your former customer, Harry

It is very interesting reading other recent comments. We have purchased this product for many years and just assumed our latest purchase was defective. If it was a planned change in the formula, we are definitely ex-customers/users. What a shame because this was our go-to spread.

I have been buying Earth Balance whipped Buttery Spread for years and have loved it and was willing to pay more for it over cheaper spreads. What the heck happened, what did you change? It literally has no taste and as other disappointed customers have said, it is hard as a rock and literally not spreadable. I thought it was just a bad batch but nope - every single one the same. Let us know when you change it back, until then, you’ve lost a customer 😢

What happened. One reviewer's comments that the "whipped spread is now dry as c candle or a bar of soap is spot on. Remember when Coca Cola introduced "new Coke" and the backlash to that. If it ain't broke don't fix it. No seriously, who came up with this idea to make a good product hard and crumbly?

Bought the whipped version because I thought it would be soft and easy to spread over French toast. Was shocked to find that it's hard as a rock and crumbles in little pieces. I thought I got a bad batch but according to the other reviews here this is the new normal. wild.

We have used this product for many years and enjoyed it. I just got a new container and I cannot believe what you have done with it! It is as hard as a rock, and has no flavor anymore. Whatever your reason for changing the formula I cannot fathom why you would do it. It can't be spread on toast anymore, etc. If you felt it neccessary to make this change and not tell us you are going to have a lot of unhappy people. I have read other reviews and I am being kind. No one will buy it anymore your goal is to make money isn't it? Well if you want to keep this formula, do so but how about reinstating the old one ? You will still make money and not lose customers. Get with it remember Coke and new coke what a mess that turned out to be? this is the same thing!!

Whatever you did to change this once excellent product ruined it. Now it’s hard as a rock and not the least bit spreadable. Most of the buttery taste is gone and after many years of happily buying and using Organic Earth Balance, I will be looking for an alternative. Why on earth did you change a great product???
