So you had gnats with an organic mix...Makes sense...prepare your mix for planting properly.

Works well for seedlings. To get rid of any possible infestation issue, with all potting mixes, I add some dish detergent and pre-moisten with boiling water before using. You can use natural dish detergent or dawn, etc. Doesn't matter. The dish detergent without boiling water will kill gnat eggs and other eggs that may occur in any potting mix using organic matter without the boiling water, but I add it just in case. I also amend with peat moss. You can use coco coir as well. Detergent helps to regulate water. Bottom water seedlings or plants when possible. Meaning set in a lid or container your pot and add water to the container. This will help as well. I'm rating lower for value because you can get an organic bag of 1.5 cubic feet potting mix from a hardware or home improvement store for just $2 dollars more. Yet, for the convenience of ordering when you don't feel dealing with going there, this is fine.

BUG INFESTED/PLANTS DIED

BUG INFESTED/PLANTS DIED - I bought this soil because it was the only one I found with no animal derived particles in it and it seem to be all plant base but after repotting 3 of my romaine plants, 2 of them died in matter of a couple of days and when I removed them from the soil the roots were infested with little white round bugs. I immediately removed the remaining romaine lettuce that was still holding on and I found more bugs on that one. I had to rinse them away before repotting in new soil in order to avoid contaminating the new soil. I worked so hard on my plants prior to repotting in this soil. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO BE REEVALUATED.

We are sorry to hear of your frustration; this is not what we expect. While insects are not present at the time of bagging, they can enter the breathing holes in the bag during shipping and storage.

Giving one star but actually have not used this. I ordered it for curbside pick up but what I received was NOT moisture retaining. I called the store and they were equally confused so I ended up calling Ecoscraps and after quite a lengthly phone call found out the product pictured (moisture retaining) was actually discontinued in 2016. Just wanted people to be aware that the photo and description for this product are not accurate.

Unfortunately this potting soil was not good quality. Within a week of using it for my plants, my pots/plants were full of gnats. I had to repot all of them with a different soil to get rid of the gnats. The porosity of this soil is also very poor. Would not buy again.

We are sorry to hear about the fungus gnats. These feed on the fungus that naturally grows in soils. Please contact us so that we can help with our product guarantee. You may also choose to treat fungus gnats with sticky traps, a half inch layer of sand over soil for established plants, and/or letting your soil dry out in between each watering.

Soil is bug infested. I replanted cilantro and used this soil. Within 24 hours it was ravaged by caterpillars. I used this soil to replant small sprouts that were thriving Previously, With in two days half of my sprouts were completely depleted. DO NOT RECOMMEND ! Target you should take product off your shelf

We are sorry to hear about the insects in the soil. Our soil is a natural product which contains NO pesticides to limit insects or other organisms. While we do not sterilize out soils because it will kill both the good and bad organisms in it, composting of the raw materials is generally sufficient to control damaging insects. While insects or insect eggs are unlikely to be in the product at the time of bagging they can enter the breathing holes in the bag during shipping or storage in the garden center or warehouse. So we can assist further, please contact us at https://www.ecoscraps.com/pages/contact-us.
