EMBRACE YOUR ALMOST - 2 years ago
Loved every second of this book. I recommend this book for anyone who is going through an in between stage of life. If you are needing some encouragement and are feeling alone while working towards a goal or purpose Jordan Lee Dooley is so relatable and provides great tips. However, I do enjoy a more conversational book from a women of faith. So, if you are going to sit there and count how many times she's used a word over and over then I would suggest not leaving an unkind review. (Yes, I am referring to a previous review that left two stars). Overall this book was great and even loved how cute the cover looks.

First, let me say that I loved Jordan Lee Dooley’s first book, Own Your Everyday. I found it insightful and like chatting with a wide friend so, of course, I picked up her new book, Embrace Your Almost, during a recent Target trip. I’m about halfway through right now and to call it tedious is an understatement. The recycled trite christian-isms (steward, refine, etc.) are tiresome. The amount of repetition makes me question if she even had an editor. In chapter 7, between pages 95-108, she used the phrase unholy labor (or unholiest of labors) FIFTEEN times. That’s not an exaggeration, I counted. Because I used to follow her on social media, I knew that she’d suffered two miscarriages and I assumed she’d write about them in this book, which she did, but the way that glossed over such traumatic and painful experiences and instead kept reiterating cliché phrases about her pain refining her, felt hollow and fell flat. Of course, being a writer doesn’t mean that you have to “cut yourself open and bleed all over the page” for your readers but her biggest example of an “almost” was so watered-down that it almost seemed pointless to include. I’m going to finish this book eventually. Hopefully the second half is less repetitive but I won’t hold my breath.
excellent!
