About this item

Author Hikaru Yamashita (National Institute for Defense Studies, Japan) charts the evolution of global peacekeeping cooperation, hoping to understand the motivations that inspire international cooperation for global peacekeeping, even in the face of global security challenges. Global peacekeeping cooperation is defined here as the recent emergence of new peacekeeping organizations and initiatives that create cooperative relationships among states, international organizations, and regional organizations. Yamashita presents a theoretical framework for understanding this phenomenon, identifying three patterns of peacekeeping cooperation: operational collaboration, joint decision making, and capacity building. This framework is applied to cases in conflict-plagued states around the world, such as Sudan, Congo, Macedonia, and Afghanistan. One chapter is devoted to capacity-building assistance and African peacekeeping. Annotation ©2017 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
