Q: whats the difference between and pros and cons of nest hub (2nd gen) and nest hub nmax?

submitted by Dwalden - 11 months ago
  • A: Hi, Dwalden! Regarding your question about the Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) Smart Display: The Hub Max has a larger 10 inch screen, compared to the 7 inch screen found on a 2nd Gen Nest Hub. If you plan on listening to music, I recommend the Hub Max due to having multiple speakers in an arrangement that offers much richer audio, compared to the single speaker found on a 2nd Gen Nest Hub. The Nest Max also has a camera for video calls and photos, whereas the 2nd Gen Nest Hub has no camera. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

  • A: Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max are both smart displays with Google Assistant built-in. Main difference is that the Nest Hub Max is bigger and has a built-in camera. We suggest visiting our Google Nest Help page to see Google Nest and Home device specifications for better comparison.

submitted by Susan - 1 year ago

submitted byLinda - 1 year ago
  • A: You can use your Nest Hub to make video calls with the help of Google Duo. There are 3 different ways to make a call with Nest Hub: Duo calling, Google supported calls, and Carrier calling. I wish I was able to set routines and make other modifications to the Google Home system on the display screen instead of my phone but past that I have gotten what I expected out of it. While it does a decent job of pickup up my speech, it does miss my intent on the first try more often than I like - as it's my first voice controlled assistant I'm still learning the syntax. It does seem to be able to do most of what I want if I ask it properly.

BookerSH - 7 days ago, Verified purchaser
Save your money and buy the Nest Mini. You can have the Netflix app but it’s only good for casting to another device. You cannot make Duo v ideo calls with this device. DUO voice calls only. I truly do not understand why this device has a screen unless you need another bedside clock.

Perfect for photo display and more

Alexis M - 27 days ago
I purchased this when it was on sale for black Friday not really knowing how much I'd use it and ended up really enjoying having this on my vanity. I use it as an alarm clock and for other basics checking the weather and voice controlling my smart thermostat. The best feature is the photo display. This lets me remember and enjoy photos that would otherwise most likely be lost in the abyss of my phone storage. I also use it just about daily to easily stream music for my toddler and I to listen to while I get ready. After being pleasantly surprised by how much I used this, I purchased more to give as gifts to family members who have also really enjoyed having this. If you can get this when it's on a good deal, it's worth it just for the photo display alone in my opinion.

Poor processor. Don't recomened
1 reply from Nest Support team - 2 months ago
Hi there Snoopy, thanks for letting us know about the issue you are experiencing with Nest Hub (2nd Gen). We're sorry to hear about your disappointment with the poor performance. To better isolate the issue, we recommend trying out the following to see if the issue may be related to factors other than your Nest Hub (2nd Gen): - Check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue. - You might also want to check for possible interferences. There could be signal interference due to traffic on your Wi-Fi network, on your neighbors' Wi-Fi networks, or from other sources like microwaves, baby monitors, or even the thick walls of your home. Placing your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) in a straight line of sight with your Wi-Fi router may help improve the signal strength. If the issue persists even after upgrading your connection, please consider contacting our support team for further help via the Google Nest help page.

I started with the Nest Mini speaker and figured this would be a great upgrade. Unfortunately I was completely wrong. For starters there's little added besides the screen display which doesn't display much more information than what you are told. The voice recognition is far worse than the speaker, making searches frustrating. But the real downside is the fact that the home spends 75% of its time having trouble connecting to the internet, a number of hard and soft resets do not fix this problem as they do with the speaker. Without internet the home becomes useless. It cannot even play alarms, and since connecting to the internet is a constant problem for some reason this product is essentially useless most of the time you will own it.
1 reply from Google Team team - 4 months ago
Hi SH1905, thanks for choosing our Google Nest products. We're sorry to hear that Nest Hub (2nd Gen) didn't meet your expectations. If you have other family members in your home using the Nest Hub (2nd Gen), setting up your Voice Match will help improve voice recognition and identify different accounts for your device. Here are some steps you can follow to enable this feature: - Open the Google Home app. - At the top right, tap your account. - Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account. - Tap Assistant settings > Voice Match > Add devices. - Make sure any devices you want to link your voice to are checked. - Tap Next > I agree. - Follow the in-app steps. - To hear personal information, you must turn on Personal results. Tap I agree and proceed with the Voice Match setup. - To invite others to set up Voice Match for tailored results, tap Invite > choose your communication method, and send the invite. To skip this step, tap No thanks. - We also recommend enabling the Personal Results for your account. Simply follow the steps on this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7684543 Your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) display provides help at a glance in any room at home. With the Google Assistant built-in, you’ll always get your best and latest shots from Google Photos. Plus, view and control your connected devices from a single dashboard.
