  • Save at home and away - The Nest Learning Thermostat can use sensors and your phone’s location to check if you’ve left, then sets itself to an Eco Temperature to save energy.
  • Programs itself - Learns your schedule and the temperatures you like and programs itself to help you save energy and stay comfortable.
  • Heating and cooling system care - HVAC monitoring looks out for many heating and cooling system issues. If something doesn’t seem right, it can send you an alert.* If you need to replace your air filter, you’ll get a reminder.
  • Most people install it in 60 minutes or less - It’s easy to install. Everything you need comes in the box. And Nest thermostats are designed to work without a C wire in most homes.
  • See how much you saved - With Energy History, just check your phone to see how much energy you used and why, or use Quick View on the display to reach Energy History, thermostat settings, or your schedule.
  • Works with the Nest Temperature Sensor (sold separately) - Most homes aren’t the same temperature in every room. With the Nest Temperature Sensor, you can let your Nest Learning Thermostat know which room should be a certain temperature at a certain time of day.
  • Support a clean energy future, right from home - Nest Renew from Google works with your compatible Nest thermostat to help you automatically prioritize usage to when energy is cleaner or less expensive.**

Q: Is this the Nest Generation 3 Thermostat. It doesn't seem that way from the pictures.

submitted by youcangetabhi - 7 years ago
  • A: It's the 3rd generation. You have to click on item details and it tells you everything about the product...

    submitted byBlondie32 - 7 years ago
  • A: There are NO details on model number under description - very irresponsible to not include this info anywhere

submitted byBoo - 3 years ago
  • A: I believe it is 3rd Generation, per Nest's support article "How can I tell which Nest Learning Thermostat I have". The way to tell from the pictures is the screen. The 3rd generation has a 3.25 in. screen, while the 2nd generation has a 2.75 in. screen. However, just eyeballing it wasn't enough for me to be able to tell. I was able to tell from the line at the bottom of the screen (it's barely visible on the picture where the screen reads 72); 3rd generation has that line with slight curvature, while 2nd generation has that line straight. Having said that, it seems irresponsible to have customers play detective in order to figure this out. Target should list this on the product page.

Q: Does it measures humidity ?

submitted by lomesh - 2 years ago
  • A: The Nest Learning Thermostat is the fully-featured model of all Nest thermostats. It has a 10-wire configuration which makes it compatible with up to 95% of the 24 V HVAC systems in the US. It supports up to 3-Stage Heating (W1, W2 & W3) and 2-Stage Cooling (Y1 & Y2), including support for humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and dual transformer HVAC systems. Nest Learning Thermostat has a humidity sensor that measures the amount of water in the air (relative humidity). It detects ambient humidity for comfort optimization and control of whole-home humidifiers. We recommend using our Compatibility Checker tool first to verify if your system is compatible, or you may contact our support team to assist you via the Google Nest Help page.

Q: Does this require a C wire?

submitted by Rin - 2 years ago
  • A: Nest thermostats would generally work without a common(C) wire, though some systems such as the ones that can’t deliver enough power, gas valves, boilers, and zone or relay panels require a common(C) wire to work with Nest thermostats. For more info or to contact our support team, you can visit the Google Nest Help page.

Q: Does this thermostat have heat contol setting as well?

submitted by Michelle D - 3 years ago
  • A: Yes. You can run your system’s fan independently of heating or cooling using Nest Learning Thermostat, but they only work with 24V systems. We recommend using our Compatibility Checker tool to see if your system is compatible with Nest Learning Thermostat when you visit the Google Nest Help page.

Q: Is this the best with WiFi

submitted by Gramma - 4 years ago
  • A: Nest Learning Thermostat offers many unique and useful features when it is connected to your home Wi-Fi although you can also use Nest Learning Thermostat as a manual disconnected thermostat. Some of the features you can enjoy with a Wi-Fi connected Nest Learning Thermostat are Home-Away Assist, controlling your thermostat remotely in the free Nest app, sending you alerts in case of a temperature emergency, and joining smart home on Google Home.

The Nest is a really nice thermostat with a bunch of great features to help us save money. However, there can be somewhat of a learning curve with it because of all of the bells and whistles. It is intuitive and starts remembering your patterns after a while, so it can automatically create a schedule for you. Sometimes this isn't what we actually want, so we have found it best to just create a schedule ourselves. We don't currently have any other Google home devices, and it still works great without that added layer of connectivity. My favorite aspect is that it knows if you've walked by recently. If not, you can set it so it won't turn on, therefore saving your energy costs. Overall, it continues to be a good device for us, it has just taken a little time to adjust to all of the cool features!

Hi there, Larkspur37. Thanks for sharing your feedback, and we’re glad that you like the Nest Learning Thermostat. We appreciate you for pointing out your concerns about its ability to create your schedule automatically, and with the difficulty to learn its rich features. There's a lot of things that makes the Nest thermostat a thoughtful thermostat, not just one that’s connected to Wi-Fi. It has a combination of sensors and algorithms that help your thermostat learn about you and your home. Please note that Nest Sense options depend on your system type so some settings may not be available. Check this link to know more: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9244728 Also, if you don't want your Nest Learning Thermostat to make automatic adjustments to its temperature schedule as it learns what temperatures you like and when, turn off Auto-Schedule. Then, you can manually edit the existing schedule, or create an entirely new one. This link might be helpful: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9209007 We’ll definitely share this feedback with the right team to work on improving our products and services, along with the product information. We hope you’re getting the most benefits out of your experience. For any questions or concerns, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

This is one of very few choices of smart thermostats that work with a heat pump system based on my online research. The wall unit is very sleek and I like interacting with it via the app/s. I like the learning feature and we have already seen electricity savings. One complaint: the Away Assist feature doesn’t work for us, I suspect due to my Google account being used for setup while our phones are associated with another email address.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 2 years ago
Hello Lynzee, we appreciate you for posting your review on the Nest Learning Thermostat. We're glad to hear that you're able to use your device with your heat pump system. The Home/Away Assist uses data from your Nest product’s sensors and your phone’s Wi-Fi and cellular location data to know when someone is home. Please make sure that everyone with shared access and control of your Nest products in the app is also using their phone’s location. If you need further assistance with your Nest Learning Thermostat, we recommend that you reach out to our support specialists so we can assist you with your concern better. Please contact us on our Google Help site, we're here to help.

1 reply from Google Customer Care team - 2 years ago
Hi Marcia, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the current inside temperature isn’t showing on your Nest Learning Thermostat. The small number near the edge of the screen is the Current Temperature measured by your thermostat’s sensors. If you cannot see any small number on the edge of your thermostat, it means that your target temperature has been reached. If you want us to take a closer look at your device, feel free to contact our support team. We’d be more than happy to help you here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Changing the schedule is a hassle

3 out of 5 stars
Toddler mom - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
I love the functionality and being able to check that I shut off the heat while I'm away. However, changing the schedule times and temps is really tedious. It also lights up when you walk in front of it, which can be a good feature, but it's a little annoying. It is on the opposite wall from our couch, so it lights up whenever you sit down or stand up. I wish the detection radius was a bit smaller for that. Other than that, it's a good product. I would purchase it again.

dumb thermostat

1 out of 5 stars
Kay Bee - 2 years ago

the thermostat has clearly NOT learned our patterns of heat on/off. We have to manually turn it up every morning and turn it down every evening when we head to bed.At least with our old programmable thermostat we had predictability over when the heat was and was not on, we didn't wake up to a cold house, and we didn't have to babysit the thermostat.
1 reply from Google Customer Care team - 2 years ago
Hi Kay Bee, thanks for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear you encountered this issue with Nest Learning Thermostat. It's possible to disable the learning feature for Nest Learning Thermostat and set it as a traditional programmable thermostat. This will let you set it to a fixed temperature setting of your choice. To set it, check out the steps below: - Turn off Auto-Schedule learning. When you turn off Auto-Schedule, your existing schedule will remain but your thermostat will stop learning from your future adjustments. If you like, you can clear the existing schedule as well (see step 2 below). On your thermostat: Press the ring and choose Settings > and then Nest Sense > and then Auto-Schedule > and then Off. - Clear your existing schedule. This is an option if you want to completely erase your existing schedule, here’s how: On your thermostat, select Settings > and then Reset > and then Schedule. Depending on which Nest thermostat you have, select either Reset or Clear. - Setup your manual schedule. Manually creating or editing the schedule will let your thermostat change your home’s temperature at fixed times that you’ve set. On your thermostat: Go to the schedule screen on your thermostat > Press the ring and choose Schedule Nest thermostat schedule icon. - If you'd like to keep having Nest Learning Thermostat learn your preferred temperature schedule, we recommend checking out this help article: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10184385 You can ultimately visit Google Nest support page to find out more about setup and features for Nest Learning Thermostat here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

It has been setup fine but a few weird things indicating it doesn’t work:1) away detection is not reliable using phones of 3 people in the household. It didn’t set auto away mode, when we left for a whole 6 hours2) history shows away was set at a certain time.. yet the heating bar shows it remained during that away time?!.. it didn’t allow the home to drop from 21c to the 12c eco temperature. So what’s the point of the automatic away mode?3) shades orange bar graph on history tab shows more time ON for day 2 than day 1, yet counted time on shows only 2hr for day 2 vs 12hr for day 1 - it’s contradictory - something is not working in the appMaybe this is because it is 10 days old and still calibrating? N that’s not relevant to all the errors above though.

Too sophisticated and slightly annoying

3 out of 5 stars
NJames - 2 years ago
originally posted on Google LLC
This device shows a different temperature to my old thermostat - it is different by 1.5 degrees C. This is slightly annoying since I have to turn up the Nest to get the same room temp. The control over the internet is valuable, but the learning functions are a level of sophistication I just don't need. It seems to define its own schedule and turns on when it is not supposed to - it will probably contribute to my fuel poverty !!!
1 reply from Google Customer Care team - 2 years ago
Hi there. Thanks for letting us know. The reason the Nest Thermostat may be showing a different temperature from the other devices due to a separate temperature measuring sensor. Here's a bit of help on that https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9233450?hl=en-GB#zippy However, if you'd like to contact our live support team for more details and have a more detailed check, the details for contacting our support team are in the previous link.

Using this thermostat along with the sensors let's me know what rooms to cut heat/air to by adjusting vents. Allows all rooms to be kept around the same temp or warm up cooler rooms by adjusting air flow to warmer rooms.
