Q: how do I know which one connects to the modem? is there a distinction or any of the three can be used as the router?

submitted by nathan - 2 years ago

Q: if one node is the main router, can the other nodes be hardwired to that node? i.e. one switch connecting all three, and one node connected to isp, other 2 nodes with spare lan port?

submitted by gee tee - 1 year ago
  • A: All Google Wifi points has routing capabilities with 2 Ethernet ports, you can choose to set up any unit as your primary router and connect it to your modem via Ethernet. Then, add the other Wifi points as your child point wirelessly to create a whole Wi-Fi mesh setup. Visit our Google Nest Help page to see setup requirements and guide on how to setup Google Wifi. If you prefer hardwiring your Google Wifi devices, that's possible too! You can also connect devices like your laptop/computer or TV directly into the LAN port of your Google Wifi. You can also connect additional devices by adding LAN ports with a switch. For more questions, you may contact our support team anytime via Google Nest Help page.

  • A: Hi, Guest! Regarding your question about the Google Wifi Mesh Router - 3pk: Good news, each mesh router includes it's own Ethernet port. This can be used to hard wire each router to an ethernet port, or for hard wiring devices to your mesh network, such as an IP camera or network equipment. Great question! If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Q: Hi, can these be used as wifi extenders without changing my current main router of a different brand?

submitted by San - 2 years ago
  • A: Google Wifi isn't compatible to work with 3rd party routers to create a mesh network or as extender. You can only use Google Wifi and Nest Wifi Routers/Points together to create a Wi-Fi mesh network. Google Wifi needs to be directly connected to your modem via the WAN port with an Ethernet cable. If you're using a modem/router combo, we recommend disabling the Wi-Fi functionality of the combo to avoid a Double NAT case which may cause connectivity issues.

Q: Two questions please - 1. Is this compatible with Verizon FIOS Internet? 2. What's the difference between this Google WIFI Mesh Router and a Google Nest wi-fi router?

submitted by Curious D - 1 year ago
  • A: Google Wifi is compatible with most modems and internet service providers, including Verizon Fios. You need to connect Google Wifi directly to your modem with the Ethernet cable to set it up and broadcast your Wi-Fi network. If your modem is a modem/router combo, we recommend disabling the Wi-Fi functionality of the combo or putting it in Bridge mode to avoid Double NAT as it may cause connectivity issues. Take a look at this link for the setup requirements and guide on how to setup Google Wifi: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7183148 Google Wifi is the 1st gen and Nest Wifi is the 2nd gen. While both models can replace your traditional router to provide seamless, reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home. The Nest Wifi router more coverage than the Google Wifi. One Nest Wifi router can cover up to 2200 sq ft while one Google Wifi can cover up to 1,500 sq ft. Q: Will the ethernet ports in the so-called remote devices work or is it only the ethernet ports in the device that is connected directly by ethernet to the router?

submitted by Jay - 1 year ago
  • A: Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi are mesh Wi-Fi systems and do not need to be physically wired together via Ethernet cables to provide whole-home coverage. You can connect devices like a computer or TV directly into the LAN port of your Google Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi point. Or if you’d like, you can connect additional devices by adding LAN ports with a switch. Please note that the main router needs to be connected directly to your modem with the Ethernet cable to set it up and broadcast your Wi-Fi network.

Q: Xfinity is our internet provider. How complicated is it to hook it up for an Xfinity user?

submitted by NancyJ - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi, NancyJ! Regarding your question about the Google Wifi - 3pk: It works with most internet service providers, including Xfinity. Setup is quick and easy, simply follow a few steps on the app and done. Q: Can this be used with any router ?

submitted by TargetShopper - 2 years ago
  • A: Google Wifi isn't compatible with 3rd party routers to form a Wi-Fi mesh network. You can only combine Nest Wifi and Google Wifi to create a Wi-Fi mesh. Google Wifi replaces your current router as the primary point, and connects directly to your modem with an Ethernet cable. You may then connect Google Wifi points as child points to your primary point. You can still use your 3rd party router as a downstream switch, but put it in Bridge mode or disable the Wi-Fi functionality of your router to avoid double NAT issues.

Q: What is the difference between this and the google nest wifi router package that comes with 2 points?

submitted by konfusion20 - 2 years ago
  • A: Google Wifi is the older Wi-Fi mesh network model compared to the Nest Wifi. It comes in either a single piece Google Wifi Point or a 3 piece bundle, with each Google Wifi Point having the capability to act as a Wi-Fi point or router. On the other hand, Nest Wifi comes with either a 1, 2 or 3 piece bundle. It comes with a dedicated Nest Wifi Router with either 1 or 2 Nest Wifi Points in the bundle. It also has a faster processor, with higher Wi-Fi speeds and a 4x4 radio to cover a large area on your home.

I have a two floor apartment and my router is downstairs in the living room. On the second floor I have 3 bedrooms but the Wi-Fi didn’t reach upstairs. Now I purchase this beautiful Wi-Fi mesh and it solved every problem I ever had. Best thing that was ever created. The Wi-Fi is now excellent. Funny thing is I purchased it just to see if it’ll even work but it did better then work. Looking to extend your Wi-Fi then this is it. Thank me later 😁

Even those these are the older version of the mesh pods, they really solved so many issues. Spectrum took our old dual band WiFi router so we lost the range we needed to connect to all our ring devices. This 100% solved the issues and the range is stronger and faster than whatever spectrum was providing us. 100% recommend these.

the google mesh system was easy to install and worked exactly as advertised... my wireless coverage (in a 2-story house, main property on middle floor while having another on the top and bottom floors) was 'almost' at the speed of the Ethernet connection. Speeds have fluctuated a bit but compared to my old setup (router/modem combo), it is great!!
1 reply from Google Team team - 11 months ago
Hi DJ, we appreciate you for sharing your review on your Google Wifi and we're glad to hear that it's almost as fast as the Ethernet connection. Please know that your device should give both whole-home coverage and a consistently strong signal. However, your home size, materials and layout can affect how a Wi-Fi signal travels. We suggest trying these simple steps below that may help improve your experience: - Check the distance between the Nest Mini and your router. Ensure that it is within a line of sight from your router. - Check for wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or appliances and devices nearby. - Restart Nest Mini and router to refresh the connection. If you have additional inquiries or want to know more about your Google Wifi, please don't hesitate to check our Google Help site.

Google fiber has been one of the best decisions I made in recently. They have a great customer service as well as reliable streaming. I have yet to have any interruptions in my day-to-day usage. I currently work from home and have to use the internet to connect to my company. There has been no problems whatsoever. I hope this stays the same and keeps up the great work.

Hi K_Park, thanks for sharing your insights with us. We´re sorry to hear about your disappointment with the move to the Google Home app for Google Wifi. We wanted to make the Google Home app the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app: - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup. - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps. - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps. We value your feedback and we´ll certainly pass this information along to our product team and go back to the drawing board and keep improving our products and services. I already owned the google wifi cones but wanted better coverage to my shop 100 ft away from my house. The install was relatively easy and straight forward. I did try to incorporate my old wifi with the new nest but in my situation the nest worked better without the old wifi cones so I took them out of the network. So far the nest works well, I have better coverage. I like using the Google assistant and the signal although weak works in my shop. I have not used other brands of wifi but I am satisfied with the Google Nest.

Until this addition, I didn’t have issues with the system.

Hi Lisa90540, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you're experiencing Wifi loss using your Google Wifi. If you're experiencing connectivity issues, we recommend ensuring that your Google Wifi primary and secondary points are within a straight line of sight to get the best signal from each other. If you're using a modem/router combo, set it in bridge mode and disable its Wi-Fi functionality to avoid double NAT issues. You may then hardwire your Google Wifi primary point to the modem using an Ethernet cable and connect the other Google Wifi secondary points to the Primary to create a mesh network. If you want us to take a closer look at your device, you can always reach out to our support team. Please feel free to contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Eithernet Ports on devices stopped working.

I had the Google Mesh system installed for about a year. I recently upgraded my NAS backup device to a Western Digital My Cloud. It wasn’t working properly, then over night it stopped working. It turned out the Eithernet connection failed. I tried swapping Mesh devices to make one of the other devices the router, that worked only briefly as the Eithernet port failed on it too. Also, trying to reconfigure the devices to act as a mesh system was impossible. I finally replaced the Google mesh system with another product. I found the devices were poorly made as well.
