This dried basil is the next best thing to the fresh version! I use a lot of basil, year round. It's not always easy to find fresh basil so my fridge is always stocked with at least two of these containers at any given time. It's perfectly minced and dried just enough to retain its flavor and prevent it from going bad. I'd buy a fresh package from the store, use what I needed and then the rest would start to mold within a day or two. This stuff always assures me that I have basil within reach at any given time. Panzanella, pizza, pasta...this is the perfect finish touch to just about any dish!
AMAZING.

My family tries really hard not to eat "out of boxes", but recently a few nights a week we just have to have something easier than normal. Monday nights have become spaghetti with jar sauce, and no jar sauce can cut it. I had ordered fresh basil in a delivery for caprese salad, but all the basil was out so this was supplied as a substitute. I was SO frustrated, until I decided to put a few tablespoons of this into the jar sauce. Now I refuse to be without at least two containers of this basil in the house at all times because it's SO much better than regular dried, plus it doesn't go moldy and soggy as quickly as fresh basil. I use this in every recipe that calls for basil, and it absolutely elevates any jar spaghetti sauce to the point where we can actually buy the cheaper spaghetti sauces and use this and Gourmet Garden garlic paste (we call it "jarlic") to make any sauce taste homemade from scratch.
Best substitute for fresh basil

This is the best substitute I've found for fresh basil, when it's out of season or if time is of the essence and you happen to be out of the fresh herb. It makes a pesto that's far closer to home-made than any commercially prepared product on the market, save from a good artisanal producer if you can find one. Since it has some salt just be sure to cut back somewhere else in the recipe.

One thing I learned when using dry seasoning you don't use as a fresh. Before anyone adds salt they need to taste before adding salt. If you do not account for the added salt in your ingredients, you can end up with something you wouldn't eat. With that said, I tried this and once I added and tasted it, I added more and less of the salt. I plan on using it more. Found Inhad better control of the flavor profile using it.

I used this product for my recipe.....almost ruined the whole meal......the salt content is all you taste..... the salt content overwhelms the entire flavor of the meal with salt to the point you can't eat what you made.....it's disgusting......1% sea salt.....which taste like you added 50% salt to your meal......horrible, horrible stuff .....never again .....returned it for a refund.....buyer beware......

I usually use fresh basil but I was out; dried basil isn’t the same, and this was the only alternative so I decided to give it a try. I was really happy with it, it gave a fresh basil taste to my marinara.

Got this to try making Pesto. I'm always having to rush with fresh pesto to use it before it goes bad. Dumped this into food processor along with regular ingredients I use and it is awesome. Keeps in fridge till I have time to throw it together.

Great time saver when a recipe calls for chopped fresh basil. It’s pretty pricey but you’re paying for the convenience.

I grow as much Basil as my light green thumb allows. I dry it so I have it all year. Unfortunately the local rabbits and other critters seem to enjoy the Basil as much as I. I came upon Garden Gourmet's lightly dried Basil. I was pleasantly shocked at the sweet aroma and freshness of the Basil. I no longer depend on my, a- hem, green thumb to produce my Basil. Or freak occasionally throughout the summer when my Basil disappears. Thank You Garden Gourmet! (I've never written a review in my life, that is how much I love the product.

Was hoping this would be a reasonable compromise between the flavor of fresh basil and dried basil. It has not the aroma nor the flavor of basil. Put it in my fresh tomato soup and could only taste the soup. I'll go back to buying the plant so I have a constant supply of flavorful basil leaves.

We love using this basil! It taste amazing in pasta and is it’s so green! I keep mine in the freezer so it last even longer. Much more flavor then dried brown basil seasoning. Happy to find it at Target after my grocery store doesn’t carry anymore. It’s been on sale and I hope that doesn’t mean they’re getting rid of it too. I plan to stock up!
