This kettle is junk. Within a few months the stainless steel inside the kettle started turning black on the bottom rim. I wrote to the warranty department requesting a replacement and they instructed me to clean it with cream of tartar. That didn't work and the warranty department refused to provide a replacement, even after I wrote to the director of customer support. After a few more months of very light use, finish on the outside of the kettle started getting the same black corrosion marks. Then, the handle started jiggling and there was no way to tighten it. I got less than several months of use before the handle completely fell off. The product is made in China and the brand is not what it used to be.

The bottom of the kettle has some dark brown build up... it seems to be rust... After trying to clean it it is still there. Im very disappointed . It was a present fir my parents and now they don’t want to use it any longer. Its not the typical white build up this different. It could be unhealthy. Im very upset.

Hi Sumner, Thank you for taking the time share your experience regarding your Hamilton Beach Glass Electric Kettle. Typically, what appears to be rust is actually mineral deposits left behind from boiling water. To remedy this occurrence, we would recommend that you complete the cleaning procedure noted in the use and care manual. As a reference, we have included a direct link to the noted manual (http://useandcares.hamiltonbeach.com/files/840181800.pdf). If further assistance is needed, please email us at email@example.com.
There was nothing wrong except the design. I can't use tap water and the handle got in the way when I tried to fill it from a bottle. The top was hard to remove. I have arthritis and had poor hand strength. If those are not issues for you the tea kettle is very pretty and works fine.

I have owned this kettle before and it worked great for years and years. I love this product. We have super hard water and even with a filter, the mineral build up gets crazy. This kettle put up with that better than any other and is so sturdy. I just wanted a bright shiny new one now because it sits out on the counter. I look forward to many many happy years of using it many times a day, five to seven times a day in fact. The water boils quickly and the pour on this is easy to balance. That is important when dealing with scalding hot water. I kept the first one as it still works fine. I don't remember how long ago I bought the first one.
