Showcase your knowledge of J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World when you encounter 1,000 picture trivia questions featuring the beloved characters, extraordinary places, magical creatures, and enchanted objects from the epic Harry Potter movies.
If you’re a serious fan of the Harry Potter movies, then this game is likely to be a hit with you! I’ll describe its gameplay and component quality separately. —Gameplay— It’s similar to a lot of trivia games, but with a few twists. The game comes with 200 cards, each with a set of 4 pictures from the Harry Potter movies on it. Each player takes turns asking a trivia question from the back of the card, based on the 4 pictures on the front of the card, and the other players try to answer it. The first twist is that many of the questions get answered as a group, which helps to keep things balanced if some people are stronger Potterheads than others. The other twist is that a lot of your ability to move in the game depends on your prediction of how well you’ll be able to answer each question. So if you think you have a good or bad knowledge of the pictures on a card, then you might attempt to get more or less movement from that question. The last twist is that some of the questions are less about knowing the movie and more about knowing the person who’s asking the question. For example, if a card show several of the animals from the movie, players might have to guess which animal the current player would most want to have as a pet. My one word of caution is that it does seem geared to reward serious fans of the movies much more than casual fans. My guess is that you’ll only feel confident if you’ve watched the movies more than once, or if you’ve watched them quite recently. —Component Quality— As usual, Ravensburger has done a great job with the artwork throughout this game. The box is glossy and beautiful. The instructions are printed on heavy paper styled to look like a newspaper from the movies! The spinners and chips are all strong, heavy components with perfectly rendered artwork. The whole thing just oozes quality! There are only a couple of issues that I think are worth mentioning. Even though the cards are large, it’s still hard to fit 4 images on them. Most of the cards use pictures that are focused in close on a person or object, so it’s easy to see what’s going on. But when a card tries to show a whole scene, it doesn’t really work well. In those (admittedly rare) cases, players will probably need to pass the card around to see the details in each picture, which slows down the game and makes it harder to keep the answers on the back a secret. I also felt like the board was a bit smaller than it needed to be. When it’s folded up, it doesn’t even come close to filling the box, so there was definitely room to make it bigger! On the whole, it’s a fun trivia game for people who love the Harry Potter movies! And the component quality is higher than you might expect for the price of the game.
As a HUGE Harry Potter fan, SO MUCH fun! We had a great time playing! Loved revisiting all the "older" memories of the younger books, and it was fun to have fantastic beasts included too. The pictures are good quality, and the game playing makes sense and it easy to figure out. Definitely some easier questions and some harder, trivia-type questions. Warning: should not play if you haven't read all the books! We had to wait until my 8 and 10 year old went to bed to play once she said "'Dumbledore's Army'? Why does Dumbledore have an army?" Enjoy!
This game was a lot of fun!! It really challenges us to think and try to remember information from the Harry Potters books. It was a little confusing at first to figure out the rules, but I think this it true of many new board games. I highly recommend this game!
Love all things Harry Potter! And this trivia game is no exception! You have to know your HP trivia but with the right group of fans, this game is tons of fun. Have only played it with my friends (all in their 20s, and all HP fans) and we're slowly indoctrinating my husband too. But we love game nights and always appreciated new fun games and good themes. This one def hits the spot for HP parties and fall/winter :)
My family *loves* this game, and so does every HP fan we've introduced it to. It's fun for both adults and kids, and this is one game where the kids can legitimately crush the adults! The content covers all the Potterverse movies as of 2017, and the questions range from pretty simple to deep details - it's the luck of the draw which kind you get in any given turn. I really appreciate that it includes cooperative "everyone collaborate on the answer" questions, and have enjoyed watching my 12 & 13 y.o. squabblers learn to listen to and trust each other as they figure answers out. It doesn't take long to play - I'd say most of our games have lasted around 30 min. And for those who care about such things, the production quality is very nice, so the game and its bits and pieces should last. I would heartily recommend this for anyone who has enjoyed the HP books & movies, and/or enjoys trivia-type challenges. When kids will get this out voluntarily instead of being on their phones, you know it's a winner.
My kids played this game with friends who are all Harry Potter buffs. The directions were a little confusing and the adults had to sit with the kids as they played, but once the kids got going in the game the game became easier. You definitely need to know your Harry Potter though. Over all the kids had fun playing
