Under normal conditions of continuous use, the Aer1 Total Air, Odor and Smoke Filters will last 4 months while the Allergen and Allergen Performance Plus Filters will last 12 months. Q: And finally, does the carbon filter go before or after the Hepa filter? The picture on the Holmes site shows the carbon filter first, but it seems to me that it should go after, because you wouldn't want to be sucking baking soda into your hepa filter.

I was not referring to the prefilter that attaches to the grill, which is apparently what you were referring to; I was referring to the carbon filter that contains baking soda, which you say ""enhance" the AER1 filters." Notice that I asked about the *carbon filter*, NOT the prefilter in this question. So please re-read and re-answer that question, keeping in mind that I'm not talking about the grill prefilter.

After using the ionizer, you may notice dust around the grills or on the front panel. This is caused by the negative ions exiting the air outlet, evidence of the ionizer’s air cleaning effectiveness. You can remove the dust with a soft brush or clean, damp cloth. I really liked this unit but the switch fried, melted inside. Whole house smelled like burned electronics board. But I had liked the unit and had extra filters and wanted to buy the same thing again. Bad move. Second one lasted about a 1.5 year, then also melted. Is there a way to buy spare parts, In could probably just repair the switch. But if I have to buy an entire new unit, I'm going to someone else.

I thought this was great for covering up dog odors and it was, it was great for allergies and dust in the house. I’ve had this for a year and this morning when I plugged it in I smelled smoke. Smoke was definitely coming out of it. Smh I am trying to get in touch with Holmes the manufacturer and I’m currently on hold with target.

I got it because it has a small footprint, compared to the other BIG air filters. But a few weeks ago, it died. It started smelling, and the control knob at the top is stuck in place and will not rotate. I suspect, that something in the switch overheated and melted the plastic.

Did not work at all for me. I have terrible seasonal allergies as well as cat dander allergies and this made them worse honestly. Left everything in my bedroom covered in a white dust. Also no warning that it releases ozone when the ionizer is turned on??

Broke after 6 Months

2 Out of 3 broke after 6 months. Now we are left with 1. Wate of money. The knob broke off due to the metal turning mechanism stopped being able to turn and the knob broke. The other fan is stuck on the highest level no matter what setting the knob is on.

If you like air purifiers for white noise at night, then this is the one for you. We use the highest setting as white noise when we sleep, but it has quieter settings as well. The only thing I don’t like is that since it’s tall and skinny, it’s a little unstable on carpet. But that’s not a dealbreaker, as it does stand just fine on its own. The issue is that if you slightly bump it, it may fall over.

It has a strange design. Intake and exhaust goes straight through, which I suppose makes it easy and cheap to manufacture but for practical use, it means that you likely don’t want to put it against a wall, which many people including myself usually do. Also as others have noted it is very loud. Unfortunately the one I received was not only loud, but it has an annoying clicking sound. I don’t expect this to last long as it doesn’t seem to be a quality product. Will likely throw it away by the time the filters need to be replaced.

It's so loud. It reminds me of an old box fan, and it's not even on the highest setting. It's effective, and the white nose could be good, I guess? I'm not sure I'm going to keep it, though. It's too loud to have on with guests over, which is one of the main uses I intended.
