About this item

Based on a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada-funded study conducted between 2011 and 2014 in Halifax and Toronto, this book draws on interviews to relate the experiences of homeless youth as they negotiate the individual, sociocultural, and economic tensions of transitioning out of homelessness and street contexts and cultures. They describe the lives of formerly homeless young people as they begin their journey towards housing stability, including the process of transitioning and the factors involved, with case studies detailing the efforts of young people to sustain stability after a long period of homelessness, to illustrate key stages of the process. They outline a participatory process in which participants and artists communicated research findings in a comic book format, providing the comic book narrative produced, and how longitudinal research with street youth presents ethical and methodological challenges.
