Q: I see the ram is 2 8gb sticks that totals 16gb ram. I ordered 1 16gb ram stick for extra ram. Would I just be able to remove one of the 9gb sticks and replace it with a 16gb one? What about SSD?

submitted by thebestquestioner - 2 years ago
  • A: The RAM for this model can only go up to 16GB (DDR4-3200), with the following configurations: 16 GB (8 GB × 2), 12 GB (8 GB + 4 GB), or 8 GB (8 GB × 1 or 4 GB × 2). For the SSD, you can go up to 1TB (M.2 solid-state drive (PCIe-4×4, 2280, non-volatile memory express (NVMe), three-layer cell (TLC)).

  • A: Yes, me myself upgraded the 16gb ram to 32gb ram and it works just fine i actually think its pretty easy too! you can also look up a tutorial on youtube on how to install it.

  • A: Max GB for the fa00xx Victus model with RTX 3050 and i5-12450H is 67108864 KB or 64 GB DDR4 RAM.

submitted byCautiousCandle - 1 year ago
  • A: As a comfirmation I just upgraded this specific model: 15-fa0012tg to 64GB RAM and it works.

submitted byCautiousCandle - 1 year ago
  • A: My undersanding, after contacting HP that the memory may be soldered to the mother board which means that it cannot be expanded. Hard to get definitive answers, be cautious.

submitted bychunks - 2 years ago

Q: If the memory soldered cannot be changed. Can I replace the 3050 with one of 8 gigs? SSD replaceable to 1 ter? If everything on SSD (database, etc.) , maybe no need for added memory!

submitted by chunks - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for the question. The RAM in the Victus 15-fa0012tg is not soldered, and there are 2 user-accessible memory slots (each occupied by 8GB). Yes, you can switch out the SSD for one of more capacity.

  • A: I bought this model and checked the max RAM via "wmic memphysical get maxcapacity" on command prompt. It seems to be 67108864 kb or 64 gb of RAM.

submitted byCautiousCandle - 1 year ago
  • A: It was hard to find documentation for this model (15-fa0012tg) but according to the "15-fa0xxx" manuals HP site suggested after registering this model only supports max 16GB RAM. Not happy abt it.

Q: What is speed of memory 3200 DDR4? Is graphics card 3050 upgradable? What is the memory for graphics card nvidia says 8 gig ? Is the RAM soldered not upgradable? Thunderbolt? 200 watt power?

submitted by chunks - 2 years ago
  • A: The DDR4 ram runs at a speed of 3200 MHz. Because of the way laptops are designed, a discrete graphics card had to be custom fit for it. As far as I know, there isn't an upgraded card that can be used to replace the RTX 3050 installed. The 8 gigabytes listed for the video card is for one of the ones you can add to a desktop. The card in this laptop has 4 gigabytes. I'm not seeing any information showing that the RAM is upgradable. The laptop does come with a 200 watt charger, but it does not have any Thundebolt ports.

I originally bought an HP Victus just for use while traveling since I was quite happy with my HP desktop for home use. I was so pleased with the specs of the Victus that I bought another one for use at work. It's easily the best laptop I've ever had, and at a very decent price, too!

Only the battery life lets it down, otherwise fab.

So far everything has been great, easy to setup, easy to use (gaming and homework mainly). It works great with Roblox and Minecraft. The only issue I have is the battery life. It’s fine for scrolling through the web and homework but when gaming you have to keep it plugged in. Other than that no complaints so far. Happy with my purchase.

Depending on your performance/battery settings, you have to charge it pretty often, but it’s perfect for gaming (heavy-duty like COD, Warframe, Fortnite, etc.) and even SolidWorks if you’re using it for CAD classes or such while in college or after 👍🏻. You don’t really have to get a monitor if you don’t want to.

I bought this laptop not for gaming but because I needed something physically sturdy and with a good processor/plenty of RAM to replace my very old HP zBook workstation which is on its last legs. I read several reviews of the Victus 5 series and it seemed to suit my needs, particularly the mentions of max RAM of 32gb and the extra drive slot, so I could expand it myself as needed. I found several online from resellers but wanted to buy from somewere local in case there were problems. I couldn't find the documentation for this specific model on HP before buying but I figured it would be fine and I'd been shopping a new laptop for months (including a return of a flimsy underwhelming Pavilion) so I decided not to let the documentation issue bother me. I couldn't get the manuals until I registered (with difficulty) the laptop with HP. Unfortunately this specific model does NOT have a max RAM of 32GB, nor an extra drive slot, and it has had chronic screen blackouts/flashing that won't permanently resolve despite multiple self-help suggestions from HP and some other suggestions I found related to screen flashing in Windows 11. Today it disrupted my work several times until I finally put it away and dragged out my old zBook with its iffy keyboard. It's almost 30 days since I bought it, it hasn't been trustworthy enough to move all my data to and I'm giving up and returning it before the deadline. I really wish HP had been able to resolve this issue but I don't want to risk being stuck with a lemon. On the plus side, it does seem to be physically much sturdier than the Pavilion I returned, and the processor seemed to be quite responsive. I never tested my more resource-intensive stuff (SSMS, video editing/conversion with ffmpeg) but it multitasked well. Others seem to be having a better experience with theirs, so hopefully the issues I'm experiencing are rare.

Good If You Are A Gamer

HP's online chat advisor was so helpful, I never questioned her recommendation regarding the Victus gaming model, although she had the list of major applications the new computer had to support. Gaming was definitely NOT in that list. Perhaps she was trying to address the photo and video-editing and design apps that require high performance and excellent graphics. Just wish it was possible to get all the gaming stuff out of the way. HP features are easy to use. Graphics are good. Online instructions are very helpful. Typically, laptop "mousepads" are annoying, but this one is very responsive and actually fun to use. Still learning all the nuances of when/how to use two fingers vs one finger to access menu and app functions. i.e. Just discovered using two fingers on a taskbar or start menu item brings up a menu that allows adding or removing that app from the respective pin location. Still don't care for having to reach over it to get to the keyboard, but most of the time will be using a Bluetooth full-size keyboard anyway. The real test will come when the afore-mentioned apps are fully loaded. Have not yet pushed the performance boundaries, but just waking the computer up has improved daily operations immensely over the previous 10-year-old HP desktop Pavilion! The increase in memory shows up immediately in handling all the background tasks that have to run in today's operating and security systems world.

Excellent budget gaming laptop

5 out of 5 stars

This 15” gaming laptop from HP has a sleek and modern design with a matte finish. The screen is bright and displays colorful, crisp and vivid images. The IPS panel display also includes anti-glare feature. It, however, does not have a touch screen. The refresh rate of 144 Hz makes it quick and responsive. Games run fine on high quality settings. It has 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD which are sufficient for casual gaming and also for personal usage or school work. The backlit keyboard is nice. The keyboard also includes a numeric keypad on the right. There are dual speakers in the laptop and the sound is clear with a decent bass. It also comes with a built-in HD wide vision camera and microphones for video conferencing. The laptop has a regular ethernet port, 1 USB type-C port, 2 USB type-A ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 audio port and 1 SD card reader. The battery life seems okay so far. The laptop boots up very fast and applications load/open up quickly. Games run smooth with decent graphics. Overall, this is an excellent entry-level gaming laptop and provides great value at a competitive price range.
