about this item

In Amsterdam, between 1620 and 1632, Cohen de Herrara (1570-1639) wrote the only two treatises on Jewish Kabbalah originally produced in Spanish, says Beltrán. He shows how the ideas of Herrara may have influenced the metaphysics of Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza (1632-77), a fellow Jew. Among his topics are the ontology of Herrara's Gate of Heaven and Spinoza's substance, the procession of the many, inconsistencies of creation in time, the concept of causa sui in Spinoza and its prefiguration in Herrara, and Spinoza's acosmism.
