about this item

In this book, authors Wong and Fingerote present readers with a collection of Wongs recor liner notes, critical articles, and personal anecdotes covering the history of jazz from the 1940s to the 2000s. The authors have organized the bulk of their text in thirteen chapters, the first of which is dedicated to Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Louie Bellson, and Buddy Rich’s big bands. Each of the subsequent chapters is devoted to a different jazz instrument and the prime examples of excellence in its use in jazz. There are chapters dedicated to the trumpet, the drums, the tenor saxophone, and a wide variety of other instruments. Herb Wong was a jazz producer, writer, jazz educator, and radio station DJ prior to his death. Paul Simeon Fingerote is a radio host for an NPR state in California and also works in advertising.
