No matter how much I watered the seeds, this "soil" did not hold water which if incredibly detrimental to seedlings. I would pour water onto the soil and the water would bead up on top. I realized it is because the Peat Moss is hydrophobic. Why would Peat Moss be used when trying to start seedlings? Because, it is sterile. Apparently sterility is more important than liquid life. Have you ever heard of sterile dirt? Honestly, sterility is the root of about all of our problems in today's medical complex, but I am biased, and you don't have to believe me. However, it is a fact that seed health does not prosper in dry environments such as Jiffy Natural & Organic Seed Starting Soil Mix. Use dirt from your backyard.

I did not realize you need to mix with water first, only know it now from reading reviews. That should be somewhere in bold writing. I did the dump and plant then water line miracle grow. When you do that the dirt just kinda floats on the water. Not sure anything I planted in this crap is gonna make it. Back to good old miracle grow for me.

I have always made my own seed starting mix, but decided to try a mix. The results have been very good with this mix. Healthy seedlings, no mold or fungus gnats. I'll be using this mix on a regular basis

I bought this because it was on sale at the hardware store, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was not at all impressed! As far as I can tell, this product is almost entirely peat moss, with very little else to break up the density. As a previous reviewer noted, yes it could use more perlite, but there are far better mixes out on the market for the same price- you dont have to venture into the world of mixing your own!

I bought this mix at my local super center. I didn't realize it's supposed to be mixed with water before using. Yes, people should read the instructions, but honestly, I never expected this not to be "dump and go." I never heard of mixing seed starter with water first so I wasn't expecting to have to have to read the bag. Even knowing now how to handle it, I'm never buying it again. I don't want extra steps in seed planting; I want convenience. Next time I'm buying something that's ready to use straight out of the bag. You should consider making it abundantly clear on the FRONT of the bag that mixing it with water before use is required, sort of like manufacturers do on instant pancake mix - "Just add water!"

It needs more vermiculite - it packs down too dense for germination of some seeds...
