Q: Dos it require distilled water?

  • A: Hi Jason, thanks for your question. We recommend using bottled or filtered spring water in your Keurig coffee maker. Coffee and tea are over 98% water so quality water is necessary for a good coffee, tea or iced beverage. We do not recommend distilled water in your Keurig coffee maker as it can change the taste profile of your coffee by making it bitter, and may cause brewing results to vary.

  • A: No but I use distilled water anyway. Bottled spring water contains minerals that may ultimately build up (deposits) and cause clogging. My Keurig (special edition) is almost 10 years old and it is still working! Clogs once in a while but only due to swiss miss chocolate kcup. No problem with calcification. Paper clip helps everytime.

Q: When it's all heated and I push the selected amount of water I need, it barely starts to flow and now it won't dispense any water. Unable to use at all now.

  • A: The point that pierces the pod is most likely clogged. There’s a tiny opening which needs to be cleared. I clean mine monthly by using a straightened paper clip. You can google how to clean your machine. Be sure to unplug your Keurig machine first.

  • A: Agree with the previous response about unclogging the metal piece that pierces the pods. Keurig has EXCELLENT customer service, if you phone them they will walk you step by step to troubleshoot your machine, if it is still unresolved (typically cleaning it corrects the problem), but if it persists they send you a new machine.

  • A: Are you serious? No it will back up your machine, possibly clogging it, but above all of that - the residue that would remain in the guts of your machine would sour and not only be hazardous to your health but it would soon begin to smell. . .really bad. I would also recommend "NOT" using a fill yourself pod. The grounds you buy in the store are finer and will float, often spilling over into your machine and cup. Use only manufactured PODS.

  • A: Our brewers are designed to be used with water only. We recommend using bottled or filtered water in your Keurig brewer. Coffee and tea are over 98% water so quality drinking water is necessary for a good coffee, tea or iced beverage. Never use softened water because sodium ions in softened water form a gelatinous mass around the coffee grounds and tea leaves, slowing down the extraction process and causing over-extraction. This can also clog your brewer.

  • A: We have the K50 and the height from my counter top to the upright open position of the handle is 17.5 inches. Good question - I do have to close the lid to shove the brewer back under the upper cupboard.

Q: Only flashes "not ready". Never goes to ready for use anymore. Is this correctable with fuse of something or is it broken an need replacing? Turned it off, unplugged it, nothing works.

  • A: If you have had and used it daily for several years, it probably needs replacing. I am on my second one and wouldn't be without it. Use it every day and it is so great to have a fresh cup of coffee in a very short time. My first pot lasted between 3 and 4 years. This one is doing great. I do change the filter regularly which I am sure helps to prolong the life of the maker.

We’ve had this exact machine a few times and really like it. Previously, it lasted us a little over two years. Now it’s lasted us just over 2 months. Is the quality going down? When we put in a coffee pod, it might make 1/8 tsp of coffee before it sputters and stops. Not sure if I should buy another one just for this to happen again.

I got this as a present for my husband, we use powder coffee sometimes and we use an Italian moka machine but I wanted for my husband to have something quick to use, between the other ways to prepare coffee. We tried it with hot chocolate and tea pods and as of now all came out good beverages. We will see if soon it will need descaling or some sort of maintenance, works well for now.

We replaced our original classic with this "new" classic - which I believe replaces the original. The water container is smaller than the original - it even has a groove up the side. Not sure what it's for but you have to be careful when you refill not to hit the groove or it will spill over the side. Also seems to use more water than before - which you can't control since this model has no strength adjustment. But it works just fine and a good value.

I am not technically leaving a review for the current product, but our k-classic is from the first model year and is still working like new. I have literally never seen a coffee maker last 8+ years. Although we have "up"graded, the old one still works fine. My only reason for even upgrading was the size of the machine, and we are less happy with our k-compact's coffee. Overall, I don't know what the new one is like, but from the quality of our almost 10 year old one, I'd say they're pretty good.

The new classic machine is attractive and makes good coffee. The negative is that setting the size for an 8 oz. cup delivers only barely 7 oz. of coffee.. Our other concern would be that our previous Keurig device lasted barely 4 years. If this one does not exceed that by a considerable margin, we will go back to a regular coffee maker. We would be careful about recommending to a friend.
