Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the flexes naturally. keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

We have been buying the Cat & Jack snow bibs for our kids since they were 2 years old and have loved how well-made and durable they are. They're inexpensive and we're able to keep several pairs on hand. This year was the first year that we needed to move up to the kids' sizes, and we have found them to be very similar to the toddler sizes, and still well-made and durable. My one criticism of the kids snow bibs is that they do not have the same flexibiity in the waistband that the toddler ones do - take note if this is the first time you're buying kids sizing. The toddler snow bibs have an elasticized waist at the back and front, as well as adjustable velcro straps at each side to allow you to take in the waistband if needed. The kids version only has an elasticized waist at the back, with no give at the front, and no way to take in the waistband, either. My 6 year old would fit into XS except that she still has a little bit of a baby pot belly and the front has no give and is just too tight. Her old 5T pair actually fits better than XS but is a bit too short. I bought her size S for a bigger waist, but it is too long and too large in the hips. Overall I am saying these are true to size, but note that they lack the flexible sizing in the waist that the toddler ones do. This won't be a problem for every kid, but will be a problem for some.
