Q: pls confirm DPCI # 072-04-2420 KitchenAid Professional 5 plus stand mixer, is this mixer has 450 W motor or 525W motor, discrepancy on item detail description.

submitted by tina20215 - 6 years ago
  • A: I was doubtful, but it DOES have a 525 Watt motor. I even asked Kitchenaid before ordering and they said it would be a 450 Watt. However, once the package arrived the box read 525 Watts and the tags on the unit itself say Max Watts: 525 Watts. It appears that this model at one time had the 450, but has since been upgraded for the 525 Watt. For whatever reason the kitchenaid support did not get the updated documentation so they may mislead you into thinking it is 450 watts. This is a huge power increase and it is noticeable. Having said all of this.. This is a really good deal at this time. For half the cost of a Pro 600 you get a motor that is nearly as powerful. The pro 600 is only stronger by 50 watts (575 watts total). You would barely notice a difference in this case. This model should be able to handle anything the pro 600 can. The only real advantage to the pro 600 is the bigger bowl by 1 quart. Go with this one over the Pro 600. The $200 saving far outweighs the 6 quart bowl over the 5 quart. I hope this finally clears up the question on the watts.

submitted byJake - 6 years ago
  • A: Ours is 525w motor. Plenty of power

submitted byGeez - 6 years ago
  • A: I just received my box and yes it’s 525 watts. Perfect much better than 450 watts, love it.

submitted byCristi - 5 years ago
  • A: All the current models are 525w. Only the older, original ones were 450w.

submitted byAlan - 6 years ago
  • A: I just got of the phone with Kitchen aid and they confirmed 450 watts for this discontinued model. I am still waiting for my order to see what it says on the box and I will call them again.

I bought this on a Black Friday deal in 2021. (The deal was $200, this year the deal is $250) Used Kitchenaid mixers from the 80s still sell for $150. I had to buy a new one when I seen the Black Friday price tag. I’ve used it much more than I anticipated! It works great! I do wish it had a tilt head from time to time but I don’t need it. It even matches my kitchen decor. I’m hoping it lasts for years to come.

I'm on my 3rd professional kitchenaid mixer. And they do not last like they used to. My last one just burnt up after 5 years of hobby use. I ordered this one and the lack of quality is apparent. It is made so poorly. Sad because Kitchenaid used to be the best and it has gone downhill so badly.

Opt for the tilt head mixer instead

Didn't realize upon purchase that the bowl lift design meant that the head didn't tilt back. It's an aesthetically pleasing, frustrating design. There is not enough clearance when you lower the bowl to easily remove attachments or add ingredients without removing the bowl altogether. Also if you are short on storage space, be aware this is taller than the classic kitchenaid mixer. Ended up quickly returning this for the Artisan model.

probably great tho first one before exchanging was likely a return sold as new - bowl was bent (probably why returned), didn't include warranty card/other inserts that the second one had. retailers need to understand the difference between brand new and open box.

Powerful motor for bread dough

Diymom19 - 13 days ago
This Kitchen Aid mixer is powerful. I use this mixer to make bread dough, cookies, ice cream, cakes, etc. it makes baking so much easier. I do not like that the top doesn’t lift up. It makes adding ingredients a bit tougher. It does not come with a splatter guard. Definitely use low settings when adding flour. The surface cleans easily. I really enjoy the attachments. I just recently added the pasta press. It’s exciting when new attachments are available because it keeps this mixer relevant for generations. I do recommend this mixer. If you have the glass bowl please note it is extremely heavy. The stainless bowls are much lighter.
