Sea Salt Air Dry Spray Where do I even start with this one? This is a brand new kind of sea salt spray. First of all, can we talk about the spray? SO OBSESSED! It has a super-fine, constant mist which ensures a more even application than your average pump applicator. Second, the feeling! No salty, crunchy, chalky texture, just satin-grit that stays touchable and soft. Btw, the difference between this one and my Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray is this one goes on wet/damp hair and the other one is for finishing so that one goes on dry hair. Waves for days!
How to: 1. Apply an even mist all over on damp, towel or t-shirt dried hair. 2. Scrunch your hair as it air dries to encourage any wave pattern.
Tip: I don't recommend using this on tighter curls or any hair type that needs moisture. Try the Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray on curly hair types instead!

I'm half-Asian and I have thick, straight hair. Over time, I've learned I have to pay attention to the characteristics of products because a lot of popular ones are appropriate for other types of hair common to other ethnicities, and not necessarily the particular traits of Asian hair. For example, I need shampoo that doesn't dehydrate my hair and cause it to poof up with a short hairstyle because of the dense and thick nature of my hair.
So I was surprised to see how middling the rating of this was when looking to replenish my supply. I just tried this out months ago after using a couple liquid sea salt sprays. I've been trying to figure out some way to get my hair from lying so flat and textureless. Every now and again I'll wash my hair and it's great with the balance of oils, and other times it's a lifeless mat. I wanted some kind of control over this situation.
This spray has been a completely 180°. I thought maybe this type of product just didn't work on my hair, but Kristin Ess' made it all-of-a-sudden happen! I get great coverage with the way it mists and I love the scent and have gotten complements on that. My hair retains texture and looks great for a really long time! I've slept with the product in my hair and still looked great and natural - not gunked up, and not like if I didn't have it, where my hair might just be a mop across my face.
Consider the character of your hair! My hair is thick, heavy, dense, and straight. Where others complain there's too much, I guess that's great for me! Also, pro-tip: I'll let my hair dry and then do another application. It locks in and gives me better structure.
Such mixed feelings about this spray!!
Pros: If you use it sparingly, it gives you GREAT lift, body, & texture. It also helps maintain my wave pattern for MUCH longer than if I use no product (I'm talkin like, DAYS). You can brush through your hair in the morning to refresh and break up any "clumps" that occur overnight. I've found that using a boar bristle brush works the best for me for that purpose.
Cons: If you use too much, your hair will be an unmanageable sticky mess. It's hard to know how much is "too much", so it really takes some trial and error, which can be frustrating. The LARGEST knot I can remember having in my hair happened while I was using this product in excess. Also, the scent didn't bother me at first, but the last time I used it, it smelled strongly of PAINT, and my hair reeked until it was dry.
Overall: If you put in the time to figure out how to use this product on your unique head of hair, you will reap the benefits!!!
Gives me a wearable style without heat- I LOVE IT :)

I really don't understand the negative reviews on here that say this makes your hair greasy. I know every product doesn't work for everyone, but I can't help but wonder how they are using it to get that outcome. For me this is the best air dry spray I've ever used. The spray itself is so even/easy to distribute evenly, the hair dries to a perfectly soft matte but not crunchy texture, and my minimal natural wave pattern is very much enhanced. It gives great texture, body and hold! I also have lighter blonde hair, and I really appreciate that this doesn't make my freshly washed hair look dark and dingy. Honestly, it's a pretty impressive product. For reference, my hair is thin but I have a ton of it, and normally if I just let my hair air dry it will look so flat and blah. This wave spray really gives me a wearable look without much effort aside from scrunching as it dries! Then if I want to do something a little extra I can use my curling wand to quickly define a few pieces here and there, but it's totally optional most days. I am so happy with this product and I hope she never stops making it! A little also goes a long way.
I have been on the hunt for a very long time for the perfect sea salt spray. My hair is naturally thick, textured, and frizzy. I'm not sure how anyone could leave a negative review for this spray because it really does what it says. Please keep in mind this is meant to be used on WET hair, which it says on the bottle. If you use it on dry hair it WILL leave that crunchy, greasy feeling. Put it on damp hair right after the shower and it really provides that gritty (yet touchable & soft) texture and natural looking waves. Other sea salt sprays have left my hair crunchy, greasy, tangled, and unmanageable but this stuff is good. My only complaint is the scent is very strong (all the Kristen Ess products are like that) but it does fade a bit after some hours.
I bought this without reading the reviews, and then read them and got nervous before using it. But I figured it couldn't hurt. I have tried so many sea salt sprays, and they all made my hair stiff and dry, which yes, is understandable, seeing as it's salt spray, but none of them ever did anything. I used this right after showering (At night) and towel drying my hair. It was only up in the towel for a few minutes and out of the towel for even shorter, but not dripping or dryish yet. I sprayed it as evenly as I could and scrunched it, and continued to scrunch it for a while, this seems to work out the stickiness that seems to collect. my hair is pretty thick, and has a bit of natural texture, it's also naturally waveyish, but it just usually turns into puffs, nothing defined, and takes forever to dry naturally. After using this, it seemed that my hair was drying faster, and there was a lot of volume and waves to it. I slept on it, and woke up to nice soft beachy waves. My hair doesn't feel dried out or crunchy. it has so much volume too. my waves are more defined and less frizz and floof. I'm very glad I tried it even with the not so great reviews.
Perfect sea salt spray. It does leave hair stickier, but that’s what it’s supposed to do! If you’ve ever been in an ocean and then let your hair air dry, this is what hair does, it becomes salty, stick, and wavy, creating that “beach wave” look that everyone wants. All the people complaining that it makes your hair “crunchy” either used wayyyy to much or just don’t understand the concept of “beach waves”. Towel dry clean hair, spray roots with “thickening spray”, spray middle To ends with sea salt spray LIGHTLY, blow dry with diffuser half way, let air dry the rest. Great product. Please don’t change the formula! Highly recommend.
Not impressed at all. I have long, fine, straight hair that looks very flat when air dried, so I was trying to find something to add a little "oomph" to my hair without the heat (especially in the summer). This is AWFUL. It smells SO STRONG and gave me a headache from the fumes in the first 30 minutes. It also sprays very heavy, so it is hard to control the amount you use. It left my hair crunchy and straw like, it looks like I bought hair gel at the dollar store and coated my head in it. I tried to brush through it and it didn't help much. Also makes my fine hair look greasy and I literally used it straight out of the shower after washing my hair. Not sure if I'll be able to revive my hair for the rest of the day or if I just need to shower again to get it out. Bought it yesterday and planning on taking it back this afternoon; there's no way I'll ever like this stuff. I had high hopes but this was a major let down... don't waste your $10.
Perfect volume and great texture. A few quick sprays and let the results fly in. I like to towel dry my hair, wait 5 mins then stray in the product with a little hand scrunching to finish. If you want to lightly use a wand later on it works so well. (Used on dark brown, long hair that is generally straight).
