An archetypal story of star crossed love set in a lush Indian locale, this ballet tells the story of Nikiya, a temple dancer, or bayadere, who is in love with the warrior Solor. Sadly, Solor is betrothed to the beautiful princess Gamzetti, and soon forgets his love for the bayadere; Gamzetti has Nikiya killed, but she returns to haunt those who have wronged her, and the lovers are ultimately united forever in the afterlife. Stunning costumes and sets characterize this spectacular performance of Petipa's original ballet, filmed in Paris' beautiful Palais Garnier.
