I do not understand the positive reviews on this set. 90% of the pieces are small/tiny pieces that are impossible to build anything with any kind of shape or size. Not what I would call a “classic” set. I wish I had known before I purchased it. Waste of money.

This set is incredible. I used it in the classroom with my students to teach them gearing and movement. I hope LEGO makes more of these in the future. I'm sad to read it is retiring soon -- hopefully there will be another like this asap.

This set has plenty of colourful bricks and functions. Half the pieces are used for the models in the instructions, leaving half for the first of your own models. The models show very well how to use the plate-cogs and bearings that transmit the power. These pieces will be useful for making things move in a scene such as a City or one of the other LEGO themes. As an experienced LEGO builder and Adult Fan Of LEGO, I bought this set for the variety of pieces that were not in the other sets I usually buy. The plate-cogs also remind me of the much older Expert Builder cogs from the 1970s. This set is great for casual fun building as a break from the more-serious scale modelling and technical modelling but it also introduces more movement than most other Classic sets and would be a great introduction for children who might like Technic sets later on. Classic LEGO has always been the foundation supporting other themes and this set is one of a range of sets that does it very well. It will mix well with other Classic sets too.

We purchased this lego set because my son had a class requiring legos but we were traveling at the time. My son (6 yo) absolutely loves how unique this lego set is in comparison to others he has because there are gears and he likes making little machines. The provided directions for making some of the already designed creations were great, and inspired him to make some of his own projects using gears. My daughter, 9 yo also loves this set - Highly recommend!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a parent of a lego lover, this lego set was awesome! So many pieces for many different building possibilities. We both can sit and built together for a long time and with this many pieces, the possibilities are endless. Classic lego pieces, go together as they should. Great kit.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Legos. I've loved them since childhood and have wonderful memories of playing with them as a kid. I still buy and complete sets as an adult, but find that the sets I'm building are not suitable to construct with my children. This is both because I appreciate them as a stress relieving, solo activity and because the scale of the project and pieces can be overwhelming for little ones. That is why I love this set. It is a great introduction to Lego beyond freestyle creations. The instructions account for seven small scale models and are easy for little ones to follow. The projects are manageable and each item has a moveable part once assembled adding intrigue and function to the finished product. My son's personal favorites are the helicopter and the organ. This set has been great at helping me share one of my favorite activities with my children in an age appropriate way.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I started doing Lego about 7 yrs ago, I’m now 56 yrs old. I do them with my 13 y.o. son. We love this function set because you can make things that do something. We’ve only before made functioning items if they were part of a set but with these we can create lots of our own. We are going to add on to this set so we can make bigger functioning stuff. I love the mixture of colors in this set and of course the quality of Lego.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My children loved building these fun motion inspired pieces, the ability to make the pieces spin or turn after they were complete added a whole new element of play. Some parts were a little tricky to assemble for my youngest, so parents may want to sit with their preschoolers to help if they are needed. We had such a great time with this set, and there are plenty of extra parts to come up with their own designs once they exhausted the projects in the guide book.

There is endless options of what you can create and I love how they make my four year old think creatively. I also love the instructions that come with to build certain things pictured, they were very easy to follow so my son didn’t even need help. Great set

We had fun playing with them after they were put together! The directions were easy to read, and each individual set had its own bag of legos!

Moving Legos!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have loved Lego since I was a kid, and now my kids can’t get enough either. I wanted a different type of set, and the Classic Bricks and Functions was interesting in that each of the items you build has some movement mechanism to it. So in my kids eyes, the Legos come to life and move! The set comes with 500 pieces of all sorts of sizes and shapes, and instructions to build a few different items. To make it easier, the set is split into seven bags of Legos, and each bag corresponds to one or more items to build. So you can just open one bag at a time and focus on building the corresponding items. i.e. you don’t have to sort through 500 Legos to find the one you need! We first built the helicopter, which took my six year old about 20 mins following the clear step by step visual instructions (some adult help required). As you roll the helicopter on the floor or table, the gears make the top propeller rotate…very cool…for a six year old! And each subsequent item has some sort of movement features. Some pieces are very very small, so not good to have around young kids, but the box does say 5+. The set does come with an “extra” bag of Legos to make your own creations. Overall a great set for fun and learning!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Put this together with my 5 year old. Fun and easy to follow picture instructions. Some pieces were so small that it made it difficult to snap together so he needed help with that but he was able to put this together. So pieces are TINY so I'm not sure how many times we will be able to put this together before some pieces go missing. Ideally they would have a few extras but overall it's a good value. Fun screen less time with my little person

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that there are endless things to create with this set! It is up to the kid’s imagination on what they can build, but there are ideas they can try, too. It has really cool parts to make just about anything they can think of. My daughter played with this for hours!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got these Legos to play with my kids. Having multiple kids in the home with different ages makes it hard to find stuff to bond over as a family. With Legos everyone can come up with their own creative idea at their own levels and have fun. We love sitting and building cool designs that come with the Legos and coming up with new designs. For example my 9 year old make a flower garden. Guaranteed hours of fun.
