With the high power to weight ratio and the centre of mass positioned high over the rear axle this thing does wheelies during acceleration. The wheelie bar at the back works well and the low mass means it is fast, but still safe indoors. The two 16 tooth gears on either side can be changed to a 12 tooth and a 20 tooth to provide either higher top speeds or higher torque. The build is not too long, and is not repetitious, and uses some clever techniques (minifigure paint rollers for mirrors, complex angles used to mount return rollers). I bought this set for the motors, and it has made a strong case for me to leave it assembled.
I bought this for my 3yr old and he loved to build it and he loves it! The only downside is the price, its a little bit pricey for this rc car design. (it would be worth it if this model had like a corvette or porsche body) It would be nice if all the techinc vehichle models were able to be remote controlled. A really good idea is to sell the chasis parts and have different body molds to sell.
I bought this for my boyfriend for our anniversary. He built this in an evening (which I expected), and he loved it. He keeps rebuilding it too which I didn't expect.
For an adult, I think I should have gotten something with more pieces, but the fact that it's also a car you can drive around made it a better deal. I was surprised, by the price, but since it's more than just a stationary Lego model, I guess it was worth it.
This is a great little build with excellent play-ability. th epower to weight of this model means it looks impressive at pull offs. It offers hours of fun racing around the hallways in the house, whilst irritating the wife. Only recommendation would be some rubber studs for th e tracks, as driving on a tile floor is a challenge. Also offers a array of power-function parts for those chasing parts for MOCs.
I love this set! I am actually 13 unlike the age says. I bought it for myself because I wanted a Technic. It is was not a very challenging build but finding the pieces was hard enough. I says this set is for people 10+. I recommend this set for anyone looking for a fun, easy, (remote control) build!
Thanks. Very fun build. I can't get over this little cars power and spunk. So fun to play with after being so fun to build. Makes me want to buy the big expensive rollar coaster, because I believe it will be as much fun in both aspects. My first RC Lego kit 8376 was so much fun that I wore out two of the gray pins that held the wheelie bar wheels in place and as a result lost a wheelie bar wheel. I also have lost another wheel. A big one. From set 8649 I can't find step 30 parts, nor the wheel. The older lego sets didn't give you part numbers of individual parts. So I can't even order what I need to refurbish these kits. These were also very fun to build as I recall. One of the greatest things about lego instructions is when you don't even know what part of the car your building until it all comes together.
I bought this kit because it looked fun. I ended up letting my 11 year old nephew build it while he was visiting. It took him an hour or less to build. Not too difficult. The car is well designed. The center of gravity seems to be located a bit too far back, but we did not experience the “wheelie” effect that one reviewer talked about, so that is good. It runs great. Is a little hard to drive in straight lines. Best results in the house and on the sidewalk. It does not run very well off road. That is my biggest disappointment. It also has a very short remote range.
Grandson put this together in no time and is having a great time with it. Their poor little Yorkie -- no so much!! Really need more of these remote items cause kids love to see things move or make noise these days.
