about this item

In a revision of her 2012 PhD dissertation at the University of Copenhagen, Halvegaard explores two highly elaborate examples of audible revelations from the Nag Hammadi collection: the Thunder: Perfect Mind (NHC VI,2) and the Trimorphic Protennoia (NHC XIII,1), both of which describe goddesses descending in auditive terms as sound, voice, and word. The relationship between these terms makes the revelations seem quite systematic, she says, particularly when considered with regard to the designation of the goddesses as both Silence and Thought. She suggests that they are not only auditive revelations, but also progressive manifestations of the divine Thought in terms that are associated with language-related speculations.
