About this item

Investigating Old Testament quotations in the prologue to Matthew, Piotrowski looks at their ability to draw various components of the Old Testament thought-world into the gospel in order to provide reading and worldview orientation to its audiences. He is primarily concerned with contexts--the Old Testament contexts from which the quotations were extracted, the Matthean contexts into which they are placed, and the first-century CE context of the first Christians. He finds that the conventional allegations about Matthew's sloppy and haphazard use of quotations result from inadequate methods and hasty conclusions.
