A very fun family game! Our 4.5 and 6.5 year old girls really enjoyed it. We like that it has elements of city building, dungeon running, and item collecting, so there’s something for everyone to love. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because it was quite complicated to learn. Once you have played it for a while it is simple, but the rules aren’t written very clearly and there are a lot of elements. Definitely recommend!

This quickly became my families favorite board game! My kids are 5 and 10 and it’s hard to find games they both like but they both enjoy this one.

It’s an easy game. If you have played dominion or ascension I find it similar, more like dominion though. I wish the monsters there was a bigger pile so people don’t know which monsters will come out, I’d prefer it be unpredictable. Other than that this game isn’t too bad.

We played this game three times the first day. Lots of options and strategies to play. I would recommend two things: Watch the how to play video on the internet (search on game name and publisher) and download the Errate (rule clarifications) from the publishers website. We had questions that both immediately answered! I've won against my kids once and lost three times. Seems fair for their different risk strategies!

I would recommend watching YouTube videos on instructions since the instructions that are included in the game are kind of confusing!

Megaland is such a fun game, I'm so glad we got it! It's easy to learn and to teach, and has a lot of different strategies to win, so each game is different! We usually play to 30 or 35 coins instead of 20 because the game feels a little too short when we play to 20.

Mega land is a fun press your luck game that reminds me of a mix of Machi Koro (the art and city building) and either Incan Gold or Blackjack. The storage that comes with the game is TOP NOTCH, and the game itself is fun, unless any player gets far ahead. Once a player gets a free turn or two ( do to too many other players waiting for "one more card" ) they can run away with the game. This is a much bigger issue at lower player counts. Beyond that situation it's a fun game with fun art that is an amusing 20 minutes.

Great quick light gateway game. Perfect for exploring the ever expanding world of tabletop games. The art, like all of Ryan's games, is beautifully well done. It is an interesting push your luck type game. The video game theme works well. And it plays super quick, it is really easy to get wrapped up in how fast it plays, and to keep pushing your luck- when everyone else is still continuing as well. Only to realize you only had 1 heart and definitely shouldn't have risked it. There is a variety of cards to swap in & out to change the availability of market cards to buy. With different effects & abilities, Megaland should keep fresh & interesting. My favorite part is the gametrayz insert which keeps everything perfectly organized. Great game for families. Also works extremely well for couples! It played really great with 2 players. There was only 1 card I noticed that was affected by # of other players.
Strategic push your luck

Love the beautiful & whimsical artwork from Ryan Laukat in this strategic push your luck game. Down time is minimized as much of the time actions are simultaneous which helps keep young or impatient players engaged. Each round players decide to stay in the current level and try for another treasure card - risking all treasure they've gained this level - or to return home and keep the treasure they've earned. Levels are simply a series of cards some of which have creatures that will "attack" taking life points (hearts) from players in the level. A player that loses their last heart falls out of the level and returns empty handed for that level. At the end of the level, players use their treasure cards to buy extra life hearts &/or buildings. Buildings give them coins (points to win) or abilities like keeping a treasure when you fall out of a level. Highest points (coins) wins the game which ends shortly after someone reaches a set number of coins (20?). While still very much a push your luck game; it has two balancing features that are an improvement over many push your luck games: first - everyone's luck is largely the same, the exact treasure cards you are trying to keep is random, but the revealed level card that primarily determines if you will keep them or not applies to all active players at once; and second - you buy buildings which are the only way to generate victory points and are designed to mitigate the effects of the cards - both treasure cards & level cards. It's easy enough to grasp that an older child can play (a younger child with help; some reading is required) but has enough strategy that an adult will enjoy it. If Clank mixed with Machi Koro in the world of Above & Below - you'd very likely get this game. Of those three games, it's difficulty is on a par with Machi Koro. As a bonus, the game comes with an insert that neatly organizes all the cards* and pieces. The components are good quality. *unsleeved only; only the tokens case is useful if you sleeve.

Megaland is a delight! Super charming artwork and delightful gameplay. I found Machi Koro severely underwhelming -- Megaland creates a much more interesting dynamic for building acquisition and use. The video-gamey vibe is especially welcome and the press-your-luck choices are especially fun with weird creatures, risky-to-use jump tokens, and hard choices of how best to use your treasures. Should I aim for sets to gain more hearts? Or aim for unique cards to buy more buildings and thereby gain more storage for new cards? And so on. The plastic insert sets a new standard -- it's flat-out perfect as a way to organize and store everything with easy visibility for each individual card category. And the foam insert keeps cards from getting all messed up if you store it vertically. The hidden easter-egg bonus cards for Above and Below make a really nice touch! Highly recommended.

This Target exclusive from Red Raven Games gets thumbs up from this family! It’s a Machi Koro/dungeon crawler mash-up with a massive press-your-luck element and gorgeous art. It also has a lovely GameTrayz insert to keep it all organized. Playing time is about 30 mins including setup, and my 6-year-old has no trouble playing, even if he does have trouble winning.

Excellent game for both adults and kids. The artwork and game components are top notch. This is a "press your luck" game that has players decide whether to continue adventuring in the world of MegaLand during the round. Dangerous creatures can make players "fall" and lose treasure if they don't travel home when they are low on health. Players collect treasure in exchange for extra health and building that give great perks. The first player to earn $20 in coins ends the game. The rounds move quick and there is a lot of replayability in this box. Different buildings can be used during the game to give MegaLand a different feel. I've really been impressed with how much the whole family enjoys this game (kids are 10 - 15 years old). I've introduced friends and co-workers to the game with lots of success.
