Great taste, but . . .

I love the taste and texture of this product, but why use toxic dyes red 3 and yellow 6, when there are natural colors available, such as annato? It doesn't matter if it has two colors like real bacon. I want a delicious AND healthy alternative. Sadly, I won't be eating this unless the toxic dyes are removed.

My expectations were low since the photos make them look like beggin strips so I asked Facebook and no one had anything bad to say, but someone suggested I cook in the oven and WOW… I was blown away by the taste. Did not expect that. Obsessed !

They use “plant-based”, but this contains milk and eggs. Rookie mistake on my part to not check.

Contains Red 3, a Well-Known Carcinogen

Taste is a 2, texture is a 2, containing the well-known carcinogen Red 3 earns Morning Star a special award for their disregard for consumer health. Red 3? Really? Morning Star, what were you thinking? I have previously thought of this brand as one that is making an honest attempt to provide healthy alternatives to meat. Including Red 3 in this product has resulted in my lost trust of Morning Star products.

We have been on a journey to remove artificial colors and flavors from our products. It's great to know that this matters to you, and we're excited to share that all of our MorningStar Farms veggie burgers, Chik'n items, meal starters, dogs, and Veggitizers use colors and flavors from natural sources only. Please stay tuned as we work to update our veggie bacon strips and remove the red dye.

Bad Ingredients

Not only does this have guar and locust bean gum, but it also has carrageenan, which isn’t even safe for pets to eat, as it can cause cancer and other digestive issues. Why would they put that in human food? You think you’re being somewhat healthy, eating vegetarian food, but then they put these terrible ingredients in there. I don’t care how far down on the list they are, if they’re there at all, I won’t be buying this ever again.

New packaging ruined my day. (Maybe not, but it's still lame.) The new package now says "Plant Based" all over it. By that definition everything except a slab of meat is plant based. Stupid. Make it vegan already and don't try to be tricky with your new packaging.

This product is not vegan. Morningstar Farms stated they would be vegan by 2021 and still aren’t three years later. It’s a shame because this is the best tasting fake bacon I’ve tried so far but they torture chickens and cows to make it so no thanks.

You CAN cook them in an air fryer — just …

Despite what the package says, you CAN cook these in an air fryer and the texture is so much better. But you must weigh them down with a trivet or similar or they’ll go flying because of the air circulation. I use a trivet that came with my Instant Pot. You just want something that lets most of the air circulate onto the bacon strips, nothing solid. Excellent taste if you’ve sworn of eating pigs (who are affectionate and as smart as dogs).

Disappointing!!

Having bought and really enjoyed MSF's garden veggie and chicken burgers for many years, I decided to give this product a try. The first box I bought was passable, even though the taste was a bit strange, and we thought we had found a fairly decent non-pork breakfast food. We are NOT vegetarians.... just trying to cut back on fat in our meat consumption. Now to the second box I just bought and opened this morning. The 'bacon' strips in this package were solid red....no lighter colored/marbled parts at all. The solid red color made it more difficult to tell when the 'bacon' was cooked long enough, hence it came out of the skillet tough and overcooked. Also, my package of bacon had evidently gone into the slicer crooked, as about half of the strips were cut off at a sharp angle on one end, yielding much less than an actual strip of bacon on those strips. I'm not happy with this purchase at all and probably won't buy this product again. If I could return it to the store I would, but that's probably not an option.

I bought this for my vegan grandson but it took him too long to come back over so I prepared it for myself and now I like vegetable bacon. Thank you Morning Star Farm. I did use the conventional oven instead of the directions on the box. It was nice and crispy. I enjoyed it ALL.

Why red dye?

I love the taste of the Veggie Bacon Strips. However I was disconcerted to read the label and find out that they contain a small amount of red dye, which is a known carcinogen. Can't you use beet juice or some other organic colorant?

Tastes great, even my autistic son likes it...but the ingredients contain red 3. You know the one that was banned from cosmetics because it's a carcinogen, yeah that red 3. Why they would use this when there are natural choices is beyond me
