About this item

Multimodality as an academic area of study is undertaken by researchers from a wide range of disciplines. Multimodality in Higher Education looks at the theoretical and methodological uptake of multimodal approaches in a range of domains in higher education. It argues that in higher education contexts a multimodal approach has the potential to provide a healthy antidote to monolingual and logocentric approaches to meaning-making, enabling a metacognitive view of semiosis as occurring across languages and modes, as well as a successful way of enabling access to dominant and powerful forms. In addition, the book shows that textual production is dictated by discourse conventions, and that texts are structured in reasonably predictable ways accounting to patterns of social interaction in particular groupings.
