The Black Male Summit began in 2008 at The University of Akron. The goals of the annual event were: (1) to provide participants with the information, knowledge and skills to assist in their continual growth and development at The University of Akron and beyond; (2) to promote the holistic development of young black men at The University of Akron; (3) to create a sustainable community of and for black men on The University of Akron’s campus; and (4) to channel participants into various institutional programs, projects, initiatives, and focus groups that will further enhance their growth and development.By 2010, the conference had grown, becoming national in scope, and expanded its reach to cover topics related to young black males' identity development, retention and graduation, engagement, economic empowerment, mentoring, and mental health. This collection presents selected papers from the 2014 conference.
