My 10 yr old daughter wanted this for gift. We had an ok time getting the e first one cracked open and found a nice geode. The other one would not crack well, took lots of parent help. When it did break it was largely solid.

Perfect Gift
5 out of 5 stars
Daffy - 6 months ago, Verified purchaser
Our grandson loved this gift. He is 11 years old and quite the rock hound so it was perfect.
Just Rocks. It was so disappointing to try to get kids excited about science and crack these open to find solid rock. I don't understand how people are posting great pictures. Felt bad for kids.
This kit was a bit of a disappointment. Ordered for my sweet rock-loving nibling’s birthday, and the box ended up only having one geode. The other “geode” was just a clump of hardened clay. Apparently this is a common issue according to other reviews. If you’re interested in getting the amount of geodes you pay for, try to find a rock shop that ships.

Rocks didnt open - 10 months ago, Verified purchaser
We really wanted to be excited about this one, but the rocks seems like normal rocks from the street, and didn't open with a chisel, ruined socks (mentioned in the instructions ad a method), and I even tried to drill open with no luck. Either I got a return with real rocks, or this toy is flawed. There is a video online with a kid and a father usind a mini electric jiksaw to open these. Definitely not for kids.

"All it did was make me cry"
1 out of 5 stars
MLM - 1 year ago
One "geode" was more like sandstone with some crystals mixed in, the other was so small and irregularly shaped that we haven't been able to open it yet. My son was so excited for this set and was so disappointed at what we got. I regret buying it.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas since she loves rocks. Well it was an utter disappointment, neither rock in the box was a geode. There was no center crystal cavity or anything. I felt so bad because she was so excited.

Pretty geode, but super hard to crack

Ashleigh W - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
This is a really lovely kit, but good lord is it hard to hit the rocks. I bought three kits for Christmas and as an adult woman, was only able to break two of the six geodes open. My husband gave a few whacks as well with no luck. We used a hammer and chisel. I don’t see how children could do this activity. My kids are on the younger side, the oldest being nine, and it was pretty frustrating for her to attempt it. The two geodes that opened were very very pretty and the excitement was great, but I’m not sure the physical labor involved was worth it.
