About this item
Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro (PAN'S LABYRINTH) took a break from filmmaking to co-author this novel with mystery writer Chuck Hogan. The first in a planned trilogy, THE STRAIN takes del Toro's normal milieu of horror and adds a procedural, almost clinical twist. A jet has landed at JFK, with most of its passengers dead from a mysterious cause, and CDC star Dr. Ephraim Goodweather is called to the scene to investigate. His findings reveal that it's not an airborne disease or biological weapon at fau instead vampires have brought their ancient thirst to America's most populous city, where there are buckets of blood and numerous souls to turn. THE STRAIN's breed of vampires isn't the typical Bram Stoker brand, and the legends and folklore have been supplanted by epidemiology and biology to chilling effect.
A vampiric virus infects New York and spreads outward, threatening the city and then the world, as a CDC doctor and a Holocaust survivor fight to save humanity.
