The NVIDIA SHIELD TV Streaming Player is your answer to what to watch tonight. This handy device is capable of streaming from your favorite apps such as YouTube, Amazon Video, Netflix, VUDU and more. Thanks to the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, you can stream what you want while also having the capabilities of controlling your lights, thermostat and more. Best yet is that this device can be controlled by your voice so you can remain hands-free as you're getting things done around the house.
The Nvidia Shield is a great device and is blazing fast when it isn't crippled by software updates. I've only had it for a month and after updating both the Shield and remote software the remote often loses connectivity with the Shield. Sometimes it is minor and just has a 5-10 second lag in input. But recently my remote will completely disconnect from the Shield. Luckily I have the Shield controller (gamepad) which I have to use as a backup. But now when I try to reconnect the remote, the Shield doesn't even detect the remote. To reconnect the remote I have to unpair the remote and restart the shield or just wait until the remote wants to work again. I can only imagine how much worse it could be for those who don't have the controller. For hardware this expensive, I expected more from Nvidia.
I purchased the NVIDIA PRO version (i.e. with internal 500Gb instead of 16Gb) of this product about 5 months ago. It is indeed a very powerful streaming/gaming device and everything will go well till you get your first mandatory software (called shield-experience) update. My device was working properly till Shield-Experience (SE) update 7.2, that was released 2 weeks ago. The update is full of bugs affecting thousands shield owners world-wide (just check the GeForce forums). I'm one the victims: my Nvidia Shield PRO does not boot any more, it is broken after the update 7.2. I contacted Nvidia support to solve the problem. In the beginning they instruct me on how to factory-reset the device (and erase all my data !) but it didn't work. My device was totally bricked !!! Next step they offered to replace the broken Nvidia SATv by a new one, and in principle I was happy with that solution: What a disappointment: instead of sending a brand-new replacement device, I got a shabby refurbished Nvidia SATv full of scratches and clearly misused by the previous owner. I bought the most expensive edition of the Nvidia SATv PRO device, and kept it in pristine conditions. The device is broken because of Nvidia's careless software-release methodology. Please send me a brand-new device. It is just not fair that I get stuck with a refurbished subpar device I'm very disappointed with Nvidia Support.
