Q: Hello!, would a hp laptop be okay for this headset? If not what vr headset should I get? And what would I need,

submitted by Jayla - 2 years ago
  • A: Do you know what hardware is inside your laptop? The minimum specs for this headset is: GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti / AMD Radeon RX 470 or greater OR NVIDIA GTX 960 / AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater CPU: Intel i3-6100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200, FX4350 or greater 8GB+ RAM 1 Displayport output 1 USB 3.0 port If your computer cannot run this, one idea is the Oculus Quest 2, where a PC is only optional, as it has internal hardware to run games on its own

    submitted bythegalaxy2012 - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi, Jayla! Regarding your question about the Oculus Rift S PC-Powered VR Gaming Headset: To give you an accurate answer I would need to know the model number of your HP laptop to look up it's specifications. I would however recommend the Oculus 2, as it has its own processor, and does not need to be connected to a super fast computer. Kindly give us a call at the following number with the model of your HP laptop and we'd be happy to check if this Rift S is compatible! If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Rift S PC - 11 months ago
Setup requires USB 3.0 and good new video card with hdmi currently running a RTX 2070 GPU on a Ryzen 9 processor with a M.2 SSD. It worked for about 11 months then the system would crash and lock during game play. Sometimes it would lock up on just calibrating the VR setting during setup. I spoke with oculus support for 2 weeks trying to reslove the problem. They had no solutions. They had me unistall and reinstalll the oculus software, update is multiple time. I sent them crash logs multiple times. Their last solution that did not work was reinstall the software for a 5th time. Of course it did not work. I run this Oculus on a gaming PC on windows 10 that I built. All my PC drivers sofrware is up to date. I highly do not recommend buying this device. Oculus does not have a repair shop and there is no local repair shops that can fix this device. It has become a paper weight!

Constant Issues

From literally DAY ONE of owning this headset, al the way until now (roughly 5 months later) I have only had problems. Here a just a few: - The headset itself consistently refuses to connect even after reconnecting wires - It loses tracking of the controllers every hour of use, and causes static when using Passthrough - The foam lining of the face shield started coming off within a month of little use - The display often has a white and blue border like the screens are broken - Occasionally says that the headset is "working perfectly" yet shows only a black screen when put on And that is just to name a few. Do not buy this product, as it seems that you WILL have constant problems.

I like that this is a pcvr headset. I do not like how terribly the power/video cord is made. Target isn't even letting me get support for this headset even though I bought a 2 year warranty, and it's been less than 3 months since I bought this.

Rift S will not work on many gaming laptops

I was very disappointed with the Rift S. I regularly run Rifts using gaming laptops. The Rift S will not work with HDMI which means I cannot run it on either of my high-end gaming laptops, and can only use it with a lower quality desktop.

I've had my headset for a few months now and I love it. The built-in sensors for the Rift-s headset are super convenient for space and ease of use. When you get into the game, the headset is super comfortable and light. The touch controlers feel very natural in the hand and easy to get used to. My only issue with the headset was setting up the computer app. However it has been fixed and I couldn't be more happy.

I love the wired system for the head set. Only down side is that this is no longer being stocked and soon the game support will slow. Over all its is a very good head set. The quality is good and easy to use. Set up doesn't take to long and over all is simple and informative.

VR everyone can enjoy

I originally had a Rift I bought off a friend and replaced it with the Rift S. Holy crud is the difference apparent. 3rd party reviews call it a downgrade but don't be fooled. The lenses are clearer, the fit better, and the lack of needing stations to track your moves means you don't have to have 5 ports on your PC just to make it work. This is the kind of setup I can see becoming a standard of VR gaming that allows everyone to get into it.

Had a custom built desktop to run VR and since installing. I have had nothing but problems. Everything from Sensors not working, USB cable keeps reading as disconnected, games crashing, audio compatibility issue to try and move away from default speak in headset. Find my self not wanting to play because I am tired of spending 15 to 30 minutes to get the system right before even trying a game and hoping the display won't crash.

A mesmerizing experience

I love the Oculus. It being my first ever VR experience, it truly is magical, and horrifying at times, but in a good way! The first game I played on it was Five Nights At Freddy's Help Wanted, and seeing those robots up close is the scariest thing I've ever experienced. I also played the other softwares that are built in, and that aspect is something to behold. Only complaint I do have is after a little while it gets very hot in the headset, and your head feels slightly compressed. But aside from that it's fantastic.

The setup was insanely easily like plug and play. My only gripe is having to attach a facebook that I didn't have. Its insane putting this piece of equipment on and not being able to stop yourself from actually ducking when an enemies arrow of pixels flies at your face. So many times I jump in thinking i've got an hour to kill only to pull off the headset and see 4 - 6 hours later

Should have upgraded sooner!

4 out of 5 stars
Didier - 2 years ago

I read reviews of the Rift S long before I upgraded from my Rift. Most reviews just stated if you have a Rift, there is not enough of an improvement to warrant upgrading. I should have ignored them all, I can't believe how much better the graphics are as well as the fit is. I can wear this headset longer than the original. My one complaint is the IPD adjustment only being done through software. I could really fine tune the Rift's IPD. On this one I don't see any difference when I change the IPD settings and there is no test as with the first one to make sure everything is focused as best as can be. It's a shame they will no longer be making a PC dedicated headset. I will have to move to another headset in a few years. And I do have a Quest and I don't like it, the list is long on what I don't like about it so it's hardly used.
