About this item

Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder In Childhood

SECOND EDITION

"Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder in Childhood will be of major value to basic scientists, clinical scientists, and practicing diagnosticians and clinicians everywhere who desire to understand the latest research findings, offering maximum guidance for bettering the lives of children and families. It provides a benchmark for how the best of science can be translated and applied to the urgent clinical needs of the unfortunately large numbers of children and families who struggle with oppositionality and frank aggression."

Stephen P. Hinshaw, University of California, Berkeley; University of California, San Francisco (from the Foreword)

Focusing on children aged 3 to 14 years, this book offers a brief but comprehensive overview of empirical knowledge and associated clinical information regarding Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder. It does so with respect to etiology, assessment, prevention and treatment. In reviewing the literature, the authors pay particular attention to recently published studies and meta-analyses, without neglecting older high quality studies. Written as a guide for professionals, this book is useful as a succinct overview of the field for both students and beginning researchers. It is also of value to advanced researchers, offering essential information on topics which may not be their primary focus of interest and expertise

The First Edition of this book was published in 2010. Revising and updating the book was needed for several reasons. Firstly, diagnostic criteria for Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder have changed since 2013 when the DSM-5 was published. Secondly, information on the underlying neurobiological, psychological and environmental factors has grown rapidly. Therefore, empirical research on these factors was updated. Thirdly, many interventions studies have been published the last years. An update of our insight into the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions therefore was needed
