The two other reviews are correct, but once you've dealt with those issues you have an inexpensive digital recording thermometer. I have found it extremely useful, and the temperature readings are very plausible and consistent. Mine broke after 6 mos and dropping it many, many times. Do not buy this piece of garbage! It is very difficult to get the back panel off to put in the batteries. Then, it difficult to put the batteries in, turn this piece of garbage on, and close the panel. No matter what I did, I could not get this piece of garbage to work. First, it is next to impossible to get the battery door open. Then, the batteries do not sit securely in their settings, so you have to hold them in while you set the time.
