USDA Certified Organic Product Whole Black Gram Without Husk, also known as "Urad Gota," are pulses that, although commonly called lentils, are actually related to cowpeas and mung beans. They originated in India, where they are still an important culinary ingredient, used in popular dishes such as Dosa, Idly, Medu Vada, Vada, Papadums & SoupS. Culinary uses: Batters: Soak and grind Urad Gota to create batters for South Indian staples such as idli (steamed dumplings), dosa (crepes), and vada (savory fritters). Dals and curries: It is a common ingredient in slow-cooked dals, such as dal makhani, and other lentil stews and curries. Papad: Urad gota is a primary ingredient in making papad, which are thin, crisp discs. Other dishes: It can be used in soups, eaten with Rotis, parathas, or incorporated into vegetable dishes.
