We bought this to cook a 12 lb turkey and for baking since our built in oven died. Tested it on chocolate chip cookies first. Decided we liked convection bake best, since cookies rose more than regular bake. Didn't decrease baking time, and cookies did not burn on top or bottom. Be sure to use a sheet that allows for air flow all around. Used cookbook temperature, no adjustment. Turkey also came out great, after 3 hour convection bake. Did have to restart timer at 90 min. The top outer layer was a tiny bit dry, but that was very thin. The rest of the bird was fully cooked and juicy. We left skin on. Also usual temperature.
We used a flashlight to look inside for a detailed look at how cooking was going. Not really a big deal. Timer setting starting at a mid range and having to press to go up or down is a bit of an annoyance, I hope the touch pad lasts. That is often an issue over time. Setting maybe isn't the most intuitive, but was easily figured out. The end timer squeak is not super loud, but continues to chirp until you turn the oven off, so you have to reset everything again to continue cooking.
The cord is not 3 prong, but is polarized, and about 31 inches long. This wasn't long enough for the cart we have it on. I bought an air conditioner cord, 6ft, rated at 5 volts and 14 gauge. This worked perfectly. Oven voltage is 2.5v I think so this was overkill, but was what was available in the extension cord.
People ask about dimensions. I was concerned about the footprint, and Oster stated external size is too large. Ad you see from the picture, the back of the unit bulges out. The rectangular footprint that has the supporting feet is 21.5 in across by 14 in deep. It is also 13 inches tall, as measured from the cart surface to the top. The front handle sticks out in front, and the unit bulges out in back, which makes absolute depth closer to 20 inches, rather than 14 of the footprint. Still we were concerned since the company recommends 6 inch clearance all the way around. We didn't have that so got a cart. Pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is on convection setting. And the air vents did not get that hot even after 3 hours continuous use. But we had it on a cart, so plenty of heat dissipation. The metal body does get too hot to touch, so you don't want anything against it while it is cooking. Surprisingly the bottom was not as hot, there must be more insulation there. I am not worried about cart top damage from heat in use. Remember again, we had it on a cart, with lots of room airflow all around.
Bottom line, it does what we want it to do.
