About this item

Pivoting on the two main ideas of the Ottoman threat and the Crusades, Pilat and Cristea present an international political history focused on the Central-Eastern-European context of the 15th century. They concentrate on the northeastern Black Sea areas, where political interests were multiple and contradictory, and where Ottoman expansion annihilated the Genoese-Venetian maritime hegemony and threatened Hungary and Poland. Their account is chronological, beginning with the first Ottoman military actions and extending to the peace of 1503, which acknowledged the Ottoman domination in the area and accepted the Ottoman Empire as a legitimate diplomatic partner.
