Summary of reviews

The PlayStation Portal offers an innovative way to enjoy PS5 games on the go, featuring a vibrant 8-inch screen with 1080p resolution and responsive controls. Guests appreciate its ability to stream games seamlessly when connected to a strong Wi-Fi network, making it a great option for gaming while others use the TV. However, it does require a constant internet connection and is limited to remote play, which may not suit everyone.

Game options are very limited. The Portal continuously has network issues where the games lag, become pixilated or will disconnect the game due to network connectivity. There are alot of other posts online about the same issue. This has happened on multiple networks.

The system is bigger than I expected it to be! The 8 inch LCD screen is perfect for what you will need. I put my dual sense next to it to compare the size of the system and its screen to the controller. The screen is crisp looks good. I honestly don’t understand the complaints about the lag from this system. It has been a non issue for me. Whether I’m connected to my PS5 Pro or cloud streaming. Idk if it’s because the PRO has WiFi 6e or because I have my system hard wired to my router. Either way no lag issues here. PlayStation made this little system more appealing to those that may not have a PS5 by adding the cloud gaming to it even though it’s still only in beta. That is a huge leap for this system and shows Sony is listening. As it can now be used as a stand alone player! My only complaint is the non existence of Bluetooth. You can only pair PlayStation’s proprietary ear buds the Pulse explorer. Which I’m not a fan of. I have a pair of the Sony INZONE noise canceling gaming buds for my PS5 And unless I buy an adapter. I can’t use them with the portal. Sony and PlayStation needs to roll out an update to take care of this asap! If it wasn’t for this it would have gotten 5 stars. A few tips Get a screen protector. Also because the thumb sticks over time can start to drift. Purchase a warranty, for peace of mind. And you can get a new system. Things happen protect yourself! Happy gaming!

So apparently Sony doesn’t consider this a system but instead a controller, so every year you’ll have to buy a new one if yours happens to mess up after a year. They don’t even offer repair for a cost. You’ll have to get it repaired from a third-party for $99-$129. By the Allstate insurance that target offers! I sadly didn’t. Sony so wrong for this!

The PS Portal delivers on some fronts but falls short in critical areas, especially for family households. Pros: The graphics are undeniably sharp, and the device maintains excellent connectivity over Wi-Fi. It’s a seamless way to extend your PS5 gaming experience, provided you have a stable internet connection. The screen resolution and overall build quality are impressive, making it a joy for solo gaming sessions. Cons: However, the inability to switch between user profiles is a glaring oversight. For families who share a PS5, this is a major disappointment. Each person in the household would need their own dedicated device to access their profile, making the PS Portal impractical for multi-user households. It feels like a missed opportunity for what could have been a family-friendly extension of the PS5. In summary, the PS Portal is a solid device for individual gamers but falls short in accommodating the needs of families. Hopefully, Sony addresses this limitation in future updates.

    Post Cloud streaming update review

    Marlin - 29 days ago
With the recent update, the portal has become what it was meant to be when it was released. Off of my iPhone hotspot (which is terrible) or even airport wifi, Cloud streaming and PlayStation streaming works fairly well. There is slight input lag but it’s almost unnoticeable. With backwards compatible games, the input lag is a little more noticeable. This thing is so fun to use when you’re away from home, or even in your bed and don’t feel like powering everything on. Cloud streaming doesn’t take long to boot up, however, PlayStation streaming takes a few minutes before it connects. Once it’s connected though, you’re good to go. No, you can’t watch Netflix on this thing, it’s primarily for gaming. It’s not a psp, but it’s real close to one. If you like traveling with a hand size PlayStation, I’d recommend this 100%!

They just update the handheld and you don’t have to have a PS five to be on a go with it. All you have to have is good Wi-Fi at your home or anywhere you go and you could do iCloud but only thing is you have to pay for the premier yearly or monthly in order for you to play the games on a go, but with Wi-Fi clear my cell and I recommend it if you don’t can’t afford a PS five and you want the handheld get it and just have strong Wi-Fi or hotspot and get the premier monthly if you can’t do the yearly

If you don’t have absolutely the best WiFi signal when traveling, this unit will drop out and not reconnect no matter how many times you reset your network or do any troubleshooting; making this a $200 paper weight. Stay clear of this product until Sony makes a standalone travel console.

Well for starters there is always gonna be a 1 second lag to every touch on the joystick towards the game characters, no matter which game! It’s honestly disappointing because I really really really wanted to like it and it’s not something that cheap per se, but i isn’t worth buying if you wanna get upset over a lag kill.

If you have a 1gb line and connect your ps5 using an ethernet cable you won't even notice you're streaming, it's amazing. I tested it just having my ps5 using wifi as well and it's terrible so be warned if you can't connect your ps5 to a cable it might not be great for you. It's kinda weird how much of a night and day difference it is when you use an ethernet cable vs wifi on your ps5 system. When you think about the fact that a new ps5 controller is 80 bucks after tax this thing for 200 is a steal if you want to see high quality games on a handheld. You can use this as a second controller also. So if you're about to buy a controller, maybe go big.
