Q: why preheated oven??

A: Hello Pruff! The oven needs to be preheated so the heat is ambient and not direct. Pyrex should not be subject to direct heat or sudden temperature changes. When the oven is fully preheated, every part of the dish is the same temperature at once. If you put it in the oven while it is preheating it can cause the dish to break as there will be more direct heat on some sections of the dish where the oven is trying to get hot. We hope this helps!

A: Hi MA! Unfortunately Pyrex glass is not safe to use in toaster ovens, as it could be exposed to potentially damaging direct heat sources. However, we do make Pyrex Littles which are specifically formulated to be used in the countertop ovens.

I was needed a covered Pyrex casserole-baking dish and this recent purchase fit the bill. I’ve been using it several times a week. It holds a substantial amount of food, cooks food evenly, and cleans up nicely. (I sometimes line the bottom with a small sheet of parchment). The lid, which fits tightly, keeps food from drying out; the easy-grab handles make it easy and safe to transport from oven to table or counter. In addition, it’s a very handsome serving piece. All in all, a great addition to my Pyrex collection.

I've been buying Pyrex for decades and have many of their glass bakers. Bought this one specifically because it has a lid that can go in the oven. The size and weight are fine, and both the base and lid have handles that can be managed while wearing oven mitts. I've used this one maybe 4-6 times and after hand washing it yesterday noticed a hairline crack on the bottom outside corner of the base. I don't recall having banged it the night before when I was making dinner, but it's certainly possible. I know I've had accidental "hits" with my other Pyrex bakers over the years, and was surprised that it didn't result in a chip or crack, so now I'm wondering if the newer bakers are more fragile than the old workhorses from decades ago.

This is a heavy glass baking dish with lid that will be used quite a bit in my house for baking chicken, casseroles and vegetables, and is a great size for storing leftovers in the refrigerator . Because of the rectangular shape it won't take up as much room in the refrigerator as a round dish . It's deep ,so it can hold a good portion of food for serving or storage.

We recently moved to a remote village in the bush of Alaska. Our housing has a microwave, but no microwavable dishes. We ordered the dish so we could cook in the microwave. There was only one problem with this dish. Because of the handles wouldn't fit into the small microwave. So we have ordered a larger microwave and will use the dish. Just make sure it will fit into your microwave. We didn't even think about measuring the inside of the microwave.
