Q: is this a paper canister?

submitted by tina - 4 years ago
  • A: Not entirely. There is a plastic rim at the top that must be cut out if you want to recycle the cardboard.

submitted byMJB - 4 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Tina. Our Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are packaged in a cardboard tube. We hope this information helps.

Q: This says "Does not contain any of the 8 major allergens". Does this mean they can be called "gluten free"? Just checking before I make GF desserts for friends.

submitted by jfeerst - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi, Jfeerst. Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are not considered gluten free. We do offer gluten free oatmeal in 3 varieties: 18 oz. Quaker Quick 1-Minute Oats, and Quaker Instant Oatmeal in 10 count Original and 8 count Maple & Brown Sugar. Quaker gluten-free varieties are clearly labeled on packages and available in stores under the Quaker Select Starts line.

  • A: I'm not sure. I would either try Googling your question and/or check the Quaker website, there may be a phone number to call and ask them. Hope this helps.

Q: Are these oats processed in a faciliity that uses equipment to process anything with tree nuts?

submitted by Mary - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Mary. If any of the top eight allergens (Milk, Egg, Fish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Shellfish, Soy, Wheat) are an ingredient or a component of the ingredient, the allergen will be listed in the Ingredients list or included in a "Contains" statement immediately after the Ingredients list. This is consistent with FDA labeling requirements. For products made on production lines where we produce other varieties that have different allergens not contained in the product, the line is thoroughly cleaned between productions. Due to the complexity of some of the equipment in some instances it may be difficult to clean some areas completely. Because we realize the seriousness of food allergens, in those instances, we warn consumers about the possibility of trace amounts of specific allergens on shared production lines when applicable, with a "may contain" advisory statement on the label. We recommend consumers look for these statements each time they purchase a product as formulas may change.

Q: Looking for rolled oats, is this brand rolled oats ?

submitted by Lee - 5 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Lee. The oats are cleaned and steamed to eliminate the undesirable enzymes present in raw oats, then 'toasted' to give them a roasted, nutty flavor. Some oats are cut into pieces to reduce cooking time and produce a more smooth and creamy texture when cooked. Oats are steamed just long enough to make them soft. Then they are passed between rollers. We hope this information helps.

Q: can you cook in microwave

submitted by Audrey - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi, Audrey. Old Fashioned Quaker Oats can be prepared in a microwave as follows: Combine water, oats and salt in medium microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 2-1/2 to 3 minutes. Stir before serving.

Opened, damaged oats arrived

Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
Sara G - 1 month ago, Verified purchaser
The oats came damaged, presumably from traveling during shipping. The bottoms of the containers had been crushed open and I opened the box to find oats everywhere in the box. It was a pain to clean up, but what was most frustrating was when I called Target to return, they would only issue a refund if I brought in the spilling, destroyed open oats containers to the store. That felt really rude and insulting - I ordered online because I don't own a car and it's more convenient to have things shipped, and in order to get a refund for goods Target damaged, I will have to wrap these MULTIPLE 2.6 pound open containers spilling oats in plastic bags and carry them on public transportation to get them refunded. I provided a photo and let the customer service rep know I'd be happy to provide a photos but they said this was their policy. Disappointing - I'm sure Quaker Oats is a great product, but it's becoming way more of a hassle to online order from Target. I was hoping to order in bulk to make groceries a bit easier, but it'll be easier to just buy one at a time when I can rather than risk Target damaging my order and forcing me to bring the open oats containers to the store, where I have to assume (and hope) they will just throw them out there. I've heard great things about Target, but this has really put me off ordering from Target when other companies would probably just issue me a refund for goods they damaged while they were shipped.

Texture is Good!

I had to laugh reading reports that the oats are too chewy, because I eat them uncooked. I prefer them chewy. I add small amounts of pecans, coconut, flax seed, dates or raisins, cinnamon, and a cup of soy milk, and I'm in heaven.

Not the same oats

I hate to write this but the product has changed. I thought I was losing my mind or maybe I needed a new microwave but I see now that I'm not the only one. The oats do not cook all the way through regardless of how long I cook in the microwave. I've doubled the cooking time, stirred them half way through, switched from cool water to hot water for cooking and nothing works. The oats remain hard, chewy and uncooked. I can't continue to buy them if the product is defective, it's a waste of money. I have to find another brand to purchase.

I always throw in a 1/4 cup extra liquid and put the oats in at the beginning before the liquid boils. It comes out great with this method. These oats are a quick and tasty breakfast with maple syrup, cinnamon and bananas topping them off.

They've definitely changed these oats along with the recent packet design. They don't soften up like the original ones and absorb all the milk/water used to cook them in. Changing to Jordan's. Sorry!
