peas, DCM

This used to be a really good deal for allergy-friendly food for those of us on a budget. We particularly liked that it does not contain peas, which is the cause of the recent DCM issues in dogs on this type of food. However, they reformulated this food last year and ever since, my dog has become stinky and greasy. He used to stay pristine with a bath every month, but now he is dirty after 2 weeks.

I try to keep my pups on a limited ingredient diet due to their sensitive bellies and GI issues and the rachel ray food doesn't disappoint. They seem to like the taste and don't end up constipated.

Literally the only cheaper dog food that doesn’t upset my dog’s stomach. I also love the limited ingredients so you know they aren’t getting unnecessary filler.

Ingredient Change

What a nightmare. My very sensitive dog has been on this food for years. Why change the formula if it's working for dogs who need it? One hefty vet bill later for severe stomach upset (I knew I shouldn't have tried this bag...it has a strong smell that was never there before), and we're looking for a new food. Note to Rachel Ray...if you're changing formulas...plaster that info prominently on the bag. Then we owners can avoid what we're going through and our pups don't suffer.

Thank you for reaching out. Our Just 6 Lamb Meal & Brown Rice recipe was renamed and reformulated to our Limited Ingredient Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Recipe in August 2021. Additionally, we made updates to the packaging, along with minor updates to the vitamins and minerals to maintain the overall nutrition of the product for your dog. While we're sorry to hear about the reaction your dog had to this formula tweak, as this is never something we'd want any pet to experience, please know this will be shared with our team, as well as your suggestion.

Why the Change?

For over 3 years I’ve been feeding my two dogs Just 6 with lamb and it was great. My little guy has an allergy to chicken, so it was great to find a quality, affordable food that both enjoyed and was even available at our grocery store. Unfortunately, with the past two bags (updated packaging) I noticed the smell was different (actually somewhat better) and then the problems began… Despite easing them in over the appropriate period of time, both started to have diarrhea and loud stomach gurgles. Even my lady (Lab/Border Collie mix) who can literally stomach anything has been suffering. I kept feeding it thinking they just needed more time to adjust but it’s not happening. We were loyal customers but now I have to find another kibble to meet their needs. It’s a shame because they really loved the old formula. Please reconsider the new recipe. The old was 5/5 stars all around. After reading reviews here and on many other sites, I know I’m not the only dog owner experiencing the same problems. Thank you.

I absolutely love Rachael Ray's cooking ideas, and years ago I thought to myself that she should come out with a dog food brand; I was very excited when she finally did but didn't have a dog at the time. As soon as my husband and I got our puppy, this was and still is always on rotation as far as what she eats.
