Reading David and Goliath in Greek and Hebrew : A Literary Approach (Paperback) (Benjamin J. M. Johnson) - image 1 of 1

about this item

In a revision of his 2012 doctoral dissertation at the University of Durham, Johnson examines the two extant versions of the David and Goliath story in 1 Samuel 16-18: a short version in the Codex Vaticanus text of the Greek Septuagint, and a longer version in the Hebrew Masoretic Text. He reflects on how to read a biblical text that has two distinct versions, and how to offer a literary reading of a translation as a text in its own right. Among his topics are the Lord sees David, single combat, a battle of words, the love of all Israel and Judah, David's taunt, and David and Merab. Distributed in the US by Coronet Books.
